Usable quantum computers that can run Shor’s Algorithm at the scale needed to break ECC are not here yet.
Real estimates for this level of capability range from 10–30 years, and that’s assuming the tech progresses as hoped.

for quantum computers it will make no difference 2048 or 8192 or any other number, but there are different algorithms that are quantum calculations proof

Quantum cracking is a valid concern, but by the time quantum computers are powerful enough, we'll probably have quantum-resistant algorithms in place. Are you backing up that phrase somewhere safe, though? That's a bigger risk right now.

Crypto world is really pliable, and there is no denial this is a worthy cause to worry about but when that time comes, we would cross the bridge.

Quantum computers have the unique ability to perform calculations exponentially faster than classical computers and could perhaps some day, break these encryption methods by using algorithms such as the Shor's algorithm.
So, "post-quantum cryptography" (PQC) algorithms are being developed by researchers and these are designed to be resistant to quantum attacks.
As time goes, most probably, organizations will then make a transition to these new cryptographic methods thereby ensuring the security of their systems.

If quantum computers can break these encryption methods, the world banking sector will collapse.

we just did a wallet hardening for a fund: the real risks were seed leaks and address reuse, not quantum. moved them to 24‑word+passphrase, hardware wallets + 2‑of‑3 multisig, rotated old utxos. our stance: monitor PQC, be ready to migrate, but don’t get phished today

A 12-word seed has 128-bit security. Classical brute force is impossible, and even with quantum computers, Grover’s algorithm only reduces it to ~2642^{64}264, still astronomically hard.


The real quantum risk for crypto is elliptic curve cryptography (Shor’s algorithm could break private keys once public keys are exposed). Seed phrases themselves aren’t the weak link.


By the time quantum computers are strong enough, major blockchains will likely have migrated to post-quantum cryptography.
