I keep hearing that backlinks are crucial for SEO, but I want to understand exactly why they matter and how much impact they have in 2025.

Technically speaking, building links to your website helps search engine bots crawl it more effectively. When the bots find that the link and content are valuable and are more useful and relevant to the users, they may rank it higher based on the user's search intent.

They're important because they act like recommendations and vote of confidence. If your close and trusted friend or family recommends a product or service that you need, you're very likely to go for that service or product.
That's exactly what backlinks do. That's why mostl links from sites that Google trusts get good value because they're trusted 'friends' of Google.

Because Google ranks sites based on number of good quality backlinks. So, you cannot rank a website without backlinks.

Backlinks are no part of the Google algo. They can get you some visitors when you get a backlink on a relevant website. But thats really difficult.
Backlinks for higher rankings is a hoax. There are lots of people on BHW promoting this hoax because they sell backlinks.

They are one of the rankin factors. It does not mean that they will make you rank alone. There are many other factors responsible for ranking as well.

SEO and Backlinks will drive you insane.
There's no shortage of guys who SCREAM how great it is and swear that google is going to send you a Trillian-Gazillion visitors every hour.
The reality is it makes little to almost no difference.
If you're not going to market your site in the real world then what can make it popular is:
*bOObs* .. *kittens* .. *someone getting punched in the face* .. *cheap consumer electronics from China*
For example: You're selling an abaya dress and no one is interested.
But post a pic of a woman wearing it who has big boobs and her nipples poke through and you'll sell lots of them.
