Is making a news website a good ideea in 2025?

I think a news website can still work in 2025, but it’s tough without a unique angle. Competition is high, and SEO takes time, so consider niche news (tech, finance, local, etc.) to stand out. Monetization through ads, subscriptions, or affiliate links can work, but reliable traffic is key.
Biggest risks? Google updates, ad revenue fluctuations, and keeping up with fresh content. If you’re serious, focus on quality reporting and distribution (social media, newsletters, etc.).

It's easy to setup such a site, gathering info from RSS feeds.

Exactly. It's worth a try, but I don't think Google will send much traffic unless OP re-writes the articles to add something new to the story. Still, it's worth a try.
@Aleics Do you have the setup ready? What tools are you going to use? If you want to consider doing a JV on this project, I would love to. I don't have much time to start new projects, but I would love to see how this will fare. I can get the domain, hosting, and plugins. Let me know what you think about this.

Its still works, but maybe you can start another one as your main one. Website right now works kind of like a way to prove that u are reliable and legit

It could be light, refreshing, quick bites. Obviously think about who you would want to target. Use sites like google news and google trends to help with research.
I don't have any setup ready at the moment, right now I was thinking about branding and how it should look because I want it to stand out a little bit.
A JV sounds great but as I said this is my first online project, I don't have a lot of experience in this niche but I'm willing to learn
That's what I was thinking about, I'd want it to be on point with a minimalistic design so it won't be a hassle for the readers like the most news webistes, I think this aproach would get people to turst it and come back to the site, maybe even subscribe to a newsletter or an update group like the wsj has
I see people talking about SEO for news website. I don't think you should ever think of SEO for a news website. Because think about it. The news will get stale and people will stop search for it and move on to the next one.
It would be better to find platforms where you can distribute your news like a subreddit or audience or group or community. So that when the news break you publish it and share it everywhere, get your quick traffic and move on. If you are lucky to post it before anyone else and google already indexed your contents. You will show up.

I have a little experience but I only rewrote the original news articles when I tried it. Don’t think too much about branding, either niche down or go with generic news. Domain containing “news” might rank for some low KD KWs in this niche. If you have an area of interest, I can check for low KD KWs using Semtush.
