Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a dilemma and could really use some advice. I own two blogging websites, both with solid DA and DR.

  • One is a crypto blog, and it’s doing pretty well—getting good impressions and clicks consistently.
  • The other is a news blog, which started off great with high clicks, but over time, the clicks have dropped a lot, even though impressions are still coming in.

Now I’m stuck between two choices: Should I sell them while they still have value, or should I keep working on them to improve traffic and monetization? if you’ve been in a similar situation, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Are there any SEO tweaks or monetization strategies you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance!

personally I'd sell both because I'm a lazy fuck and don't like having to deal with headaches, so free and easy money is welcome :D

Also, I've never heard of news blogs before, you probably meant news site, in which case I would sell it because I feel that people tend to either go to mainstream media or to their favorite (niche-y) person to get their news. News blogs (especially if your visitors don't know who you are) have hardly any credibility, so even if you get clicks through on your site, I don't think you'll manage to make a lot of money with it since you don't have lots of traffic and your traffic is also not targeted to anything in particular (unless, it's a niche-y type of news site).... But like I said, I am speaking about news sites here, I genuinely don't know what news blogs are so feel free to educate me

Regarding the crypto blog... I've just learned a few days ago from someone I trust that blogs are dying because google will prefer ecoms and business websites moving forward, so if you feel that you have the time and motivation to attach a store or a business to your blog you can give it a shot to see how it does. If it's profitable, keep it, otherwise out with it...

Haha, I see what you mean. Selling would definitely save me the headache, and I’m seriously considering it.

Any tips on squeezing the most out of them before selling? Or better yet, any easy money ideas?

I will tell you to keep working on them to improve traffic and monetization. If you keep working, then you have much more potential.

I am trying a lot and don't know how to get traffic there any suggestions?

Do you think it's possible to improve your revenue with the current traffic? If yes, maybe you should improve the revenue for the next few months, then sell. This way you'd be able to get a good price for your website. Also, sell early if you've already lost interest. Because, the longer you hold them while revenue and traffic keeps dropping, the less you can sell them for.

The reason, I mostly recommend selling is because you already sound like you've mentally checked out already. No need holding onto something you're no longer fully interested in. It'll be boring and frustrating.

hmmm...

The 2 best things for which people would buy websites are:

- revenue
- SEO value

The next 2 best things for which people would buy websites if the first 2 things don't exist are:

- good domain name (short / easy to remember / catchy or interesting / brandable / any combination of these)
- other perks that your domain / business might come with (good email list, in-house products or services, etc)

If your sites only generate revenue but the other 3 conditions are not met you can easily assume a profit of 12x to 24x the average monthly revenue that the site had generated over the last 3-6 months, but preferably over the last 9-12 months... or over the last 6 months at least...

The SEO value is hard to quantify because it depends on a lot of stuff like

- your site's DR
- the number of RDs and backlinks (a decent RD can add anywhere from $1 to $10 or more per RD, otherwise you an expect $0.5 per RD)
- the quality of backlinks
- the standings of the site with google mostly, but with other important sources of traffic too (Reddit, Bing, etc... but google is the important one)
- the trends over the last 6-12 months for your site's rankings, traffic, indexed pages, number and positions of ranked keywords

Unfortunately, as you can see, there are lot of variables included in assessing the SEO value of a site / business, and each one of these variables come with their own variables depending on their numbers, so yeah... you can expect anywhere from $0 to millions of extra $$$ based on these variables :D

Anyway, I digressed a little, but I was trying to give a direction towards you can work to squeeze more from your sites. I know it's a lot of work (but maybe you already meet some of these conditions??), but - as you can probably tell - nobody's going to pay you $1000s for sites that have no value, either in terms of SEO or in terms of revenue.... or at least in terms of side benefits like domain name or other perks like I've mentioned.

That's why I said that if you can't be bothered to put extra work into them (which I can totally understand given the times we're living in), just sell them and take this stress off your shoulders :)

If you have some stats associated with your sites (Ahrefs / Semrush traffic / rankings / backlinks related stats) you can blur the sensitive info about your sites and post those screenshots here and people can give you some rough estimates of what you might expect to get if you sell these websites in their current state. Who knows, maybe you'll be happy with the outcome :)

But make sure to also mention some details about the domains themselves (how long they are, which niche / industry your sites are in, whether or not they're EMDs, what type of keywords they target, etc)

Honestly, I’ve put a lot of money into these websites, but the returns just haven’t been there. That’s what’s making me consider selling. Now I’m stuck should I cut my losses and sell, or hold on and keep hoping they’ll start ranking?

I think you're a better position to answer if to hold or cut your losses and move.

Asides SEO, did you explore other traffic sources? Depending on your niche, social media traffic could help breathe new life into your website. Once again, if you're still interested in them, you can keep working on them but this time diversify your traffic, create the kind of content that does well on social media and give it another shot.

If you're mentally exhausted and cannot do any of those, sell it for the most amount possible and move onto something else.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! That really helps me understand what buyers are looking for. I’ve invested almost $3,500+ into these sites, and while I know I won’t get that back, I’d at least like to recover $800–$1000 if possible. The revenue isn’t great, so my best shot is leveraging SEO value and domain strength. Both sites have solid DA/DR and decent backlinks, but I get that buyers usually want more than just that. In the meantime, are there any quick optimizations I could do to increase their value before selling?

In business, strategic investments are meant to drive long-term success. Every decision should be calculated, every risk carefully analyzed. I understood this, "I studied it, applied it, and followed the logic"

But reality had other plans. I built websites, invested my time and money, believing I was making a smart move. Now, I find myself questioning whether it was the right call. Had I invested elsewhere, I might be seeing profits instead of losses. But instead, I took the entrepreneurial leap, and the only return I have right now is lessons learned and a tough reality check.

I can't think of anything yet.

But it would help if we got some GSC and Ahrefs screenshots of the important stuff about your sites:

- impressions / clicks / average position / CTR
- DR and number of RDs and backlinks
- Ahrefs / Semrush graphs of the traffic, rankings, RDs, and ranked keywords over the last 12 months
- everything you can tell us about your domain names as I explained earlier, but without giving out your domain names, of course :)

Just blur all of the important info about your sites (their DR / AS scores, the domain names and the titles of your pages, etc) and post those screenshots and we might be able to say a thing or two...

man, we can't help if you refuse to cooperate.

I asked (TWICE) with bullet points for what you need to tell / show us, but you just posted 3 random screenshots that we know nothing about. and you expect us to offer help, but that's not how it works...

Seriously, post everything that I've asked, otherwise we are just shooting in the dark :(

Still, based on the little info you've provided I can draw a few conclusions....

Screenshot 1... lots of impressions, normal (not bad, but not good either) average position, and horrible CTR.

This means (and I could be wrong since I don't have a lot of info about whichever site screenshot 1 represents) that you are ranking around pages 2-3 for keywords with lots of search volumes (justified by the amount of impressions), but you can't break into top 10 because of 1 or more reasons:

- your keywords are tough (most likely)
- your site is not well optimized (lacks good internal linking for example)
- the 1st page is full of authority sites or other google-related stuff (youtube vids, products, ads, generative AI, etc) and - depending on which elements are present there for your target keywords - you might never rank on page 1, or you need high authority and trust to rank there.

If I were to guess, I would say that screenshot 1 represents your crypto site, but again, I can be very wrong since I lack important info...

Screenshot 2.... again lots of impressions (especially since the average position is 40, which means the keywords you are ranking for linger around pages 4-5 of google), which means that - again - you are targeting keywords with high search volume.

And the fact that you still get so many impressions on pages 4-5 of google tells me that the top 10 (maybe even the top 20) is probably filled with sites that are hard to knock down. This is one thing that I'm - again - just blind guessing since that's all I can do based on the little info I have...

Another thing that I can think of is that you've done some weird things with this site (purchased google traffic for it, for example), which explains the high number of impressions in a desperation of trying to rank it.

If I were to guess, I would say that this represents the news site. It could also be the crypto site too, but I will go with the news site for now...

Screenshot 3.... the fact that you have such a high DR with such a SPECIFIC and EXACT number of RDs and backlinks (1800), all of them 100% d0follow too, tells me that you've purchased gigs / services to boost the DR of your site.

If I were to guess, I'd say that screenshot 3 represents the site in screenshot 2, and I think you've done the DR inflation thing in mid-February as that's when your clicks and impressions started to drop. So, probably that the site in screenshot 2 was doing decently well until then (which is why I wanted to see the stats for the last 12 months, not just for the last 3 months), and then you've gotten bad links to try to increase the DR, which had caused your site to tank.

But AGAIN (for the 3rd time) these are just SPECULATIONS for now, as I don't have the full picture because you refuse to provide me with all of the info I required. Not to mention that you didn't say anything about the domain names themselves, which could help boost your site's price by quite a bit if they're good domains...

Anyway, I don't know what quick fixes I can recommend because I don't have the full picture. I was tempted to say work on your internal links, or build the authority of your site, or fix the content, etc. But since I've no idea what your sites look like (or even which one is in which screenshot) I refuse to offer any tips

EDIT: apparently, the site in screenshot 2 is only 2 months old, my bad, I missed this point...

Thank you for the detailed information, I truly appreciate it. I realize I didn’t even mention my websites earlier, my mistake. One is ######.co.uk and the other is ########.com. I understand that my websites may not be the best, but I’ve put in my best effort to build and grow them. At this point, I feel like luck played a big role in the outcome. Nonetheless, I value the experience and any advice on maximizing their potential before selling would be greatly appreciated.

not a good idea to post your sites here for millions of people (including google employees) to see.... Why do you think that I told you to blur out the sensitive info about your domains?

And I still need those screenshots by the way, as I don't have access to SEO tools, so I can't do anything with your domains, you keep disregarding my advice so I don't see how I can help you :(

But since you've shown the domains maybe someone can check them in Ahrefs and give a tip or two...

The domain names are nothing special IMO, so I don't think you can get extra money for them.... Furthermore, the word "forbes" is most likely trademarked, in which case you might get a C&D when your news site grows big enough to get noticed by Forbes. Always try to avoid using domains that contain words like apple, amazon, forbes, microsoft, sony, etc... Avoid registering and using domains that contain words from big companies, those companies will always come after you when you start making money, and they'll force you, your hosting and your domain registrar to take the domain down because you're capitalizing on the success of their brand and they don't like it.

You can check if "forbes" is trademarked in these countries, these are 3 of the countries that take trademark infringement the most seriously:

UK... https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmtext
USA... https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/search
Germany... https://register.dpma.de/DPMAregister/marke/basis

Anyway, besides these I've got nothing to work with as I need to see the stats.... even the DR 50 that you showed earlier seems fake to me (but I could be wrong about this, so I need to see the backlinks in order to figure out)... IMO the domains themselves are not worth more than $100 if even that.... ok, the crypto domain has some brandability potential, and and it's also relatively short, which you could probably sell on its own for anywhere from $100 to $500 if you find the right buyer. And with a site that's in good standing with google you might get $500-1000 for the whole package. But again, you need to show the stats (RDs and backlinks, traffic, number of ranked keywords) as they show in Ahrefs / Semrush...

Few more things that I've noticed....

The news sites has a Health category and if you intend to run Adsense on this site (and even without Adsense I think you still need this) you will need a Disclaimer page on your site (similar to Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, etc) to tell your visitors that you're not an accredited doctor and that whatever health-related advice you give on your site should be taken as guidelines only and that they should consult with their doctors for professional treatment / help. Something like this, you can google for templates for the Disclaimer page if you can't figure out what to write on this page. But it's an important page in financial and health related industries, so you should have one on both sites as it helps with improving the EEAT scores (not by much, but every little thing can help) which is pretty important for small, random sites like yours.

Also, you need to work on your internal links as - from what I saw - you are only linking to your homepage and that's not good, especially for the news site that needs to have ALL relevant pages within their silo interlinked together. For example, all pages in the Health category need to interlink with each other if they make sense (if they address 2 similar topics, or if 2 different pages contain a few identical / similar / closely related sentences)...

Currently, you only link to the homepage and while this might work with the crypto site because the entire site is only about crypto, with the news site your internal links need to point to OTHER pages in the SAME category instead of linking to the homepage. So, the pages in the Health category should link to other pages in the Health category, the pages in the Business category should link to other pages in the Business category, etc...

The content... most of the content seems OK, but I have a feeling that it's still not quite there. I might be wrong, but this looks like AI content to me which - on its own - might not be bad (I've heard lots of people saying that they rank with 100% AI content) but the problem is that this content seems very generic, it lacks soul and personal touch, it feels like it's not addressed to people but to other machines or something. I would honestly try to make this content a bit more personal and relatable to people's issues... at least for the pages that show potential (rank the best and / or get the most clicks)

The OBLs (Outbound Links), or external links if you prefer. It looks like you're linking out to other sites from EVERY SINGLE page that you have, which could be bad if you do this with each article that you publish. To be safe, I recommend you only link to other sites once in every 10-20 articles that you publish. This is not an exact number, it's one that I would feel comfortable using, if you want you can link out once every 5 articles... or 10 or 8 or whatever number you feel OK with. Just not with every single page lol.

This screams like link farm to google (link farm = site created specifically to sell links), and - when taken together with other elements that google sees and considers important (uncloaked affiliate links on your site, generic content, no / poor internal linking, etc) - it begins to be obvious why you're not ranking.

Speaking of affiliate links, I saw one article in the Health category (an article about a diet or something) that links out to Amazon with a non-cloaked link, which - on its own - might not be bad. But it's generally recommended to cloak ALL affiliate links. Better be safe than be sorry...

Also on the news site I saw 1 page in particular that's very poor quality (it lacks images, it has 10+ links to the same external site, etc)... This screams lack of interest in your site, or maybe you've been hacked, but either way it's not good. Take care of your sites like are your own babies and this will show up in whatever google uses to assess the quality of sites which, in the end, will translate into rankings and traffic for your sites...

And there were many other things that I could have noticed had I spent more time on your sites. Small things, but they do add up and they give an overall feel about your site that google takes into account to decide whether / where to rank it.

At this point I'm not even sure that I need the screenshots of your RDs, backlinks and rankings because you've got a lot of work to do on your sites themselves. And I didn't even check if the sites are mobile friendly, which is another big thing with google, so yeah...

If you want to sell these sites in the current state, and based on what I saw... let's say you'd want to sell them to me (I'm not buying them, I'm only speaking hypothetically) and that I'm in good mood. I would probably give you $150 for the news site (and this only AFTER I would make sure that "forbes" is not trademarked, although I have a feeling that it is), and about $200 for the crypto site.

Maybe these prices are low but - based on the limited info I have about these sites - that's what I'd pay. I don't know what you've spent $3500 on, but these don't look like quality sites to me, sorry to say it :(

Anyway, I'm done with this. If you can provide me with the Ahrefs / Semrush screenshots of the graphs for these sites' RDs, backlinks and ranking growths over the last 12 months I might be able to find something that can raise their price. But otherwise I don't know what else to say, maybe someone else can help.

Cheers!

PS: click on the "report" button underneath your latest post and ask a moderator to remove your sites before they get spotted by nasty people. Hopefully it's not too late :)

I really appreciate you taking the time to go through everything and share your feedback. I’ve sent over the Ahrefs screenshots as you asked. About the trademark issue, I definitely don’t want to run into legal trouble down the road. What’s the best way to check and register a trademark if needed? Would love any advice on that. Also, I have to admit, I’m feeling pretty frustrated right now. I spent $3,500 on backlinks, thinking it would help boost my site’s authority and rankings. But it turns out I got scammed… Almost all the links have been removed, my DR has dropped to 0, and my traffic has completely tanked. It’s honestly disheartening because I put so much into this, and now it feels like I’m starting from scratch. If you have any advice on how to recover from this mess, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks again for your help, it means a lot.
