[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

Here is how I usually use Keyapp installs these days:

First of all I get them from keyapp.top (here is my ref link if you want to sign up through it)

Very important to say this because I saw a bunch of people making this mistake and I also made it myself:

Make sure to only buy keyword installs for keywords that REALLY reflect your app. For example, if you have a Baby Sleep Sounds app, do not buy or rank for the keyword "anxiety relax music" or something like this.

You might think: "hmm, it would be best if I rank #1 for as much keywords as possible", but you think wrong. Here is why: If you rank #1 for the wrong keyword, everyone who is really looking for a "anxiety relax music" app will scroll straight past your app. This means, the conversion rate will be low as hell....and a low conversion rate will hurt your overall rankings and ASO.

On the other hand, if you give people exactly what they are looking for, they will download it and you will have a high conversion rate.

Sounds all reasonable, right?

Lets get into my strategy:

I make paid ads (mostly through Google Ads and Apple Search Ads), wait for 3-4 days and then I set up a keyword install campaign.

Why? Because I want to keep it all as natural as possible. It should be a mix of REAL users, organic users and keyword installs. Then, I set up an advanced keyword install campaign. Mostly for 14 days (yes, two weeks) so I have a longterm influx of keyword installs.

To make it all look natural, I do it like this:

Day 1-4: Between 5 and 10 keyword downloads per day
Day 4-7: Between 10-15 keyword downloads per day
Day 7-10: Between 20-30 keyword downloads per day
Day 10-12: Between 10-20 keyword downloads per day
Day 12-14: Between 10-5 keyword downloads per day

If I need more downloads I increase number of downloads. The goal is to keep everything natural and to have a longterm ranking effect.

Another mistake people make is they buy keyword installs for 3 days with an absurd amount of installs like 300-400. This seems unnatural and it won't help you long term. They might even deindex you for this specific keyword, so you might completely waste the invested money.

Its really important to keep everything natural and look organic.

If you have a big budget, you can make your app reach the top charts and get a lot of organic traffic for one specific country. To do this, you need a lot of downloads for the country you want to get into the charts. Some countries are difficult, others are easier. For example, USA is very difficult. Its probably the main store everyone targets. Countries like Australia or also Canada are way easier to get into the top charts.

So, if you want to get into the top charts in these countries, you need as many downloads as possible in a short time. We want to show the app store the app got viral and suddenly popular.

Now you have two ways you can do this:

The legit way by simply targeting one specifc country on Google Ads/Meta Ads/Search Ads and just blast a shit load of money into this country to get downloads.

Or: You can use a mix of keyword installs and direct installs (also on keyapp.top) and start slowly with 20-30 downloads per day and over the next few days increase it to 300-400 downloads per day and then slowly decrease the number.

Example:

Day 1-3: 20-40 downloads / day
Day 3-6: 60-80 downloads / day
Day 6-9: 300-500 downloads / day (viral effect peak)
Day 9-11: 50-100 downloads / day (slowly declining)
Day 11-14: 20-40 downloads / day

There are also tools like Data.ai and so on that shows you how many downloads you need per day to rank in the top charts for a specific category. Keep in mind, every category for every country is different.

so you ranked with this stratergy in ukraine ?

also data.ai is dead/moved to sensortower

No, I have no idea what happened with Ukraine. It suddenly happened out of nowhere by itself.

How important is screenshot quality or have you only just started A/B testing?
Do you also localize screenshots.

What are your thoughts on making the app free for the first week, getting organic downloads + reviews, then making it paid ?

I just started but screenshots are EXTREMELY important and yes, I do localize them into the most important languages: English, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Italian, French, Russian, Arabic

No, don't do it for the first week because Apple is going to give you a traffic boost. Do it after the traffic boost is over (5-7 days)

I developed an Astrology AI app and Apple tells me:
"Design - Spam
Your app primarily features astrology, horoscopes, palm reading, fortune telling, or zodiac reports that duplicate the content and functionality of similar apps in a saturated category."

I replied that my app is different because it offers a custom AI, but I don't know. I don't understand why 80% of the apps on the App Store are basically copies of the other 20%, lol.

It's a shame because there are good opportunities to promote these types of apps on TikTok and Instagram.

Hey,

I have a question about setting up an iOS account for publishing apps with IAP and ads.
Do you recommend starting with an LLC or LTD Account right away, or is it better to begin with a personal account and create a company later if the app performs well? Would there be any issues transferring the apps to a company account later on?

I wish I went for company first.

You got unlucky with the reviewer. Some of them don't care, try to resubmit your app once. Change title, logo and screenshots. Try to add 1-2 new features.

I have never transferred apps from one account to another (maybe I will in the future tho) but yes, I would recommend you doing it with the companies account, if you have one. But this is up to you. I also have two accounts, but now I mostly publish the apps on my companies account.

Update:

I recently tried different paid ads, here is what I found:

Meta Ads (targeting Facebook and IG, mostly reels and stories):

Google Ads: Downloads can be cheap, its good to get your download numbers up. Problem however is that users are mostly downloading it out of interest or fun without real intention (they see the Google Ad somewhere on YouTube, etc. and just download it) this means you might earn less through IAP

Search Ads Basic: Good and easy to set up. But you have almost no control over who sees your app or how many downloads to get from one specific country (except you only choose one country)

Search Ads Advanced: I recently started learning how to use it more and I can say this has been a real goldmine for me so far. I usually use "Search Results". Make sure you really make a keyword research and also keep tracking the keywords and its cost.

Why has it been a goldmine? Because I realized one simple thing: The user already has a search intent when he looks for a specific keyword. He wants the app. He is way more willing to spend money for IAPs than a user on Google who randomly sees your app. So, yesterday I make around $1000 in one day. Now I will increase the costs.

Just saw I forgot to write about Meta Ads. Can't edit the post anymore.

So here it is: Spent a lot of time and also money to make creatives. Took a look at my competitors and their ads. Tried it by myself. Cost per installs were way too high. Between $2-3 per installs. Just for comparison, with Search Ads Advanced I pay $0.70-1 per install.

However, I do understand the branding effect from Facebook/Instagram. This branding effect doesn't exist on Search Ads. But for scaling right now, Search Ads Advanced is the best way to go. I don't want to do branding, I want to earn as much money as possible and this only works if I get CHEAP TARGETED INSTALLS.

Yes, I did. I tried many different kinda video styles. I will make more tho. Just its really time consuming. I probably have to hire a guy who is going to make it.

Guys, it happened again. I don't know why, but one of my apps seemed to go viral or featured. This app got around 10 downloads per day, now it got 3k downloads in one day and made me $250 so far today.

Really interesting journey, just finished reading the whole thing. Appreciate you taking the time to share it.
If you don’t mind me asking, what niche are your apps in?

You can create a new one, but you have to make sure to not leave any footprints at all
