[Journey] - Totally different betting area than I thought

Here in Brazil, sports betting is booming, even more so now that they have regulated betting houses, including the .bet.br extension for regulated bets.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about taking advantage of this boom and investing a few hours to see if there would be any financial return. The idea was to create a quality blog with tips, tutorials, betting rankings and news about regulations. That's what I did. I acquired an expired domain with good backlinks and DR 38 and I already thought I would get ahead, because I would have a domain with good metrics, I would write good articles and the blog would have very good performance and UI/UX.

I used tools like ubersuggest and kwfinder to find words with a lot of searches but little competition. After creating about 20 articles, I still haven't had any hits, not even on the first 10 pages.

When I analyzed it, I found that practically all keywords related to betting have large news sites and .gov.br links in the first position. That's right, people invade .gov.br websites and create pages with that keyword and get to the top positions. I don't know how Google's algorithm, which always says 'ranks what's good for the user', thinks it's a good idea to rank government links about illegal gambling and betting at the top of the list...

So that's my journey, to see if I can at least recover the amount spent (domain, host and my time).

This has been on for a while now. It became somewhat less effective or more difficult with Google.com, I guess it's still working great in non-English google.

It's very hard to rank this kinda of keywords, competition is tough, but you can still rank and grab some of the big guys traffic. I have Brazilian porn sites, they're ranking better than my English sites.

For years I have seen this crypto or casino pages appear on gov domain to get better ranking, but they get removed once someone notices and reports quickly

I'm also trying to do something very similar to your strategy, but instead of ranking for generic keywords like "slots" or "tiger game," I'm trying to rank for keywords specific to the betting sites themselves. Although these aren't keywords that will get me the top spot, I can still get a lot of traffic because they are the most searched words in the betting niche for SEO.
