Are our data really protected by the projects we use? It can not be guaranteed because users are not smart.

Monero is anonymous but if you buy $482,38 XMR today and then exchange $482.38 to Bitcoin exactly 20 minutes later and do this exactly 100x times, you de-anonymized your XMR yourself and connected the Bitcoin wallet to it.

If you use TOR and login to your Facebook account, you're not anonymous anymore.

If you use a VPN before TOR, you send the same data to the VPN that the VPN will send to the TOR entry node, encrypted indeed, but the packets look the same, thus your real IP could be discovered. Imagine sending crypto transactions this way.

You see, it's how are you using it and in 99% the issue is the user who doesn't understand what "anonymous" means.

Consider that there is a breach in an entity which manages the infrastructure on which a particular blockchain operates. Who do you hold liable ? Because, in the example given above, will the laws in any applicable jurisdiction consider that entity as a data processor ?
So, crypto is and will always remain complex and ever-evolving, to which applicable laws would not be able to relate quite well.

Isn't that exactly what AB is trying to solve? They’re focused on making blockchain infrastructure more connected, bringing real-world assets on-chain, and fine-tuning tokenomics for better scalability and reliability.

In my opinion, crypto’s promise of data privacy is kinda like saying “trust me bro” until proven otherwise, cool in theory but messy in practice.

Most “decentralized” platforms still rely on centralized backends or shady data-sharing incentives that low-key sell your info. Web3’s whole “own your data” vibe gets wrecked when the infrastructure’s still controlled by the same tech giants or VCs pulling strings. That said, there are gems like Secret Network (SCRT) or Oasis Network (ROSE) that bake privacy into their DNA with stuff like encrypted smart contracts or confidential computing, actual tech that lets you keep data private while still using apps.

Even Bitcoin’s Lightning Network has privacy perks if you’re not lazy with node setups. I’m cautiously optimistic, but do your research, no one’s handing out free privacy sandwiches here.
 
Some coins like Monero are trying to do that, but most coins doesn't treat advanced and complete privacy as the main focus or their top priority
 
Like Virgo12 said, it's user dependent. User error/oversight will even the most secure setup redundant. Self hosting and minimizing patterns of activity are just two of many ways to help
