What you say makes sense but this has been said about them since day one.

The reality is they work like charm if setup properly. They cannot easily detect them.

You are not safe or penalty proof if you use only other link types by the way.

Safest way is to consider PBN units like another main website.

Set it up just the way you would you main site. High quality design, content, SEO elements in place etc. You can even rank it for a few keywords.

And then, after some time, you simply link out to your main target.

Exactly, that is why I said it largely depends on how they are setup. I agree as well that you aren't safe with any links, you could do everything by 100% following Google's guidelines, and still run the risk of picking up a penalty by their automated systems.

There is so little safe networks for white hat sites. Many of link sellers or builders don't know what PBN exactly is so they ruin many sites with their network.

Be careful.
