⚠️ Remove A Sellers Private Profile Option

If you're a seller here I think that you shouldn't be allowed to have your profile be set to private.

Let's be honest it's already a biiiiig red flag if you have a BST and have your profile limited.

What have you got to hide?

That's what's going through your prospects heads when they see that big fat limited profile page.

I mean it's another channel for you to advertise as well on your status page.

Someone clicking on your profile after reading some of your sales copy are gonna be turned off aren't they.

Maybe in the past when you could sell IDs (secondeye) it made sense but not anymore.

I totally agree. I have said this many times but never been heard.
If they want to be more transparent this should not be an option.
I would never buy from anyone who was on private and always warn people about this.

I immediately check a sellers profile and if it's limited I press back.

They could have the slickest sales copy and copywriting skills but if their profile is private I immediately don't care and assume they have something to hide.

I'm sure coding something like that in the XenForo backend is relatively easy but I'm not a coder so just pure speculation here.

Maybe marketplace 2.0 already has this feature incoming.

These functions are really basic in xenforo.

When a user is created - let's say BHW1 - this user maintains permissions of a single group by default Registered, IF the user upgrades his profile - Jr Vip - so already gets two permissions Registered and Jr Vip.

They are two totally different groups because one grants access to the forum in general and the other gives you extra permissions in different subforums.

So the user remains as a registered member but also Jr Vip. So far there is no conflict of permissions but.
If the permissions of the Jr Vip group are modified then it will affect the entire group in its entirety and no member belonging to Jr Vip will be able to hide their connection status, even if you are a member of other groups at the same time
- E.g Jr vip + Jr Exec Vip - which will affect more than one user who I'm sure want to stay hidden.

Perhaps a rule could be established that sellers should not disable or limit private messages or access to their profile.

I'm glad I saw this thread because it made me check my settings. I didn't realize I was set to private. I don't think sellers should hide their profiles, so I immediately changed it.

Only reason I see this can be enabled is when you have a bit of back and forth with a member and you choose to ignore for your peace of mind. In this case, I don't know (I suspect) that member you've ignored, it's not able to check your profile. At the end of the day, if the option is there, you should be allow to use it.

But generally, yes, I am +1 for not having limited profile for whole BHW population if you're selling in the marketplace.

I don't see any immediate issues with such a prospect. Sounds good on paper and even in practice. Considering scammers too here on BHW it would make more sense to implement this.

I think people should be allowed to do what they want with their profile though, even if it is dumb. Dunno how far mods would be willing to force users to present themselves in a particular way. I was under the impression BHW is laissez-faire with everything that isn't TOS breaking.

I don't mean to say this isn't true but is this sometime common for sellers to private their profile? I've never seen that somehow and I would be a little shocked if someone was so silly as to do such a thing lmao.

BTW Buyers who hide their profiles are also in the wrong. Like most negative experiences I have had on BHW with clients were the ones who had made their profile private. I think this option to make profiles private has to go away altogether.

Unfortunately, because there's no distinction, it's not something that can be easily done without completely overhauling the current system that's in place (not just the usergroups, but the payment settings, internal and external documentation surrounding this, etc).

Personally, I think this is a good suggestion, but not one that could be implemented by those in charge at this time due to the aforementioned reasons.

If one of your requirements is to purchase from a seller who hasn't hidden their profile, then let that seller know. If they choose not to make their profile public, move on to the next seller.
