How these AI site get top rank? (Discuss)

Hi there,

in my recent research, I found many similar "AI" sites get very good ranking but cannot find a reason (for some of those).
So I wanted to open this thread to have discussions.
Let me take a recent example:

When search "AI homework helper", "AI math solver", a domain name "notegpt" is in very good ranking,
(once you open the site, you'll understand why I called it's "AI" site, those landing pages are designated for SEO keywords, functions are just very similar to other sites or those "real" site such as: symbolab, mathway, brainly, etc.)

after checking in SEMRush, apart of the great increasing in traffic, seems "notegpt" didn't have too many content nor paid backlinks to the 2 landing pages in above example, which are: /ai-homework-helper, /ai-math-solver

But patently, there must be very smart and good blackhat ways to get such good result in so short period.

If too much details are the secret of similar blackhat way, possible to discuss the general methodology?

Interesting observation! Yes, these AI sites might be using advanced SEO strategies, without specific details, it's difficult to know the exact methods they are using. Have you checked if they are driving traffic from social media or other sources besides Google?

Not yet, before this case, I've noticed some of similar websites, but some of them I know they just spent huge on backlinks, AI generated content (those content type Google may consider AI is good-to-go), but the example one in my OP, I haven't find any further clue yet.
So, i wanted to open the discussion here.

But on the other hand, the lifetime of these "AI" sites is not that long as well, so far I know a site lived 1.5 year is the longest one. ("live" means in high Google ranking, or outrank the other "real, classic, traditional" sites in the industry)
Lifetime is not a big issue, but just wanted to discuss something about how can get this surprisingly result in short period.

Thanks for sharing the data, I've also checked backlinks from SEMRush, but got following findings:
- compare to the other "classic", "traditional", "real" sites, the mentioned (notegpt) site seems didn't win to many on backlinks, in terms of the counts, quality, for example, photomath, symbolab, chegg, brainly, etc., any of them win compare to mentioned site;
- there are some backlinks does not exist, e.g., some tools give result the mentioned site get backlinks from openai.com which I cannot find any

Anyway, glad to have you join the discussion and thanks for your finding.

Hopefully we can find how they archive the ranking if there is more professionals join here.

it's really strange. But I guessed , it might be because of any other bots or traffic manipulation. Other option is social media marketing which is not comes under the backlinks.
However, the site really knock out the SERP with it's smart move. Kudos!

Good to see you mention calculators, I'm not sure about those one-page websites and tiktok video downloaders, but for calculators, months ago, symbolab, mathway (their websites seemed only have several pages as well) were in top ranking, but after my offline-survey with US/CA students, they are actually very famous and used among them.

But now different, notegpt, mathgptpro, they are in top ranking without a clue finding.

I was thinking of traffic manipulation as well - after checking the traffic over 56%-60% from "Direct", but didn't aware of whether heavy direct traffic (if it was real) will make a site rank higher in Google? In another word, will Google considers a site with big direct traffic volume as good one and give top ranking?

Thanks for letting me know the social-markting will not in "backlinks", but I also didn't find their actions in social marketing yet, if there is a way to research, please share, appreciate it!

look at ahrefs backlinks, they are either rented or niche edits.

Thanks for the reply, but it's very general, which means these tactics are generally included in the BH SEO techniques, but i haven't find which actually they are using and how.
If there is more specific details you could found and would like to share here, will be appreciated.

there are sites that "rent" links like niche edits on EXTREMELY high powerful websites,s some are hacked some are paid placements, and some are content pieces but in the end all do the same, you dont need many and if they are good quality 10-20 per month every month on hmepage, categories and products pages will make you a STAR ! you secret here anyone can do it but you need to know where to find them or how to get them. It took me 21 years of failures, $100's of thousands of dollars of clients money and daily leaning and networking to get to know the right people doing the right things. and even those "right things" changed sometimes, month to month year to year.
