Most of us are old lifetime customers, still you need to go thru the proper channels.

This is a common mistake most people do. Extract the zip file and check if you can find the theme zip file inside because some theme providers will zip the Themes, documentation and other files in one zip so you might need to extract the parent zip and upload only the theme zip file.
