[Journey] - Building A $5,000/mo Web Design Studio From Scratch

Weekly update

Hello world,

Studio website:
Added one new service page with quality content. Studio website is starting to get a little love from Google. Already ranking for a few keywords. Yeah, on page 3 in fact, but it takes time to climb up to the top.

Script for cold calling:
Used NotebookLM for that. Uploaded every legit video I found about the subject from YT. Also upload some websites, articles and a few books. So, now I have my very own cold calling guru. My new assistant helped me put together two cold call scripts with potential scenarios. For example, how to start the call, how to list the benefits correctly or how to close the deal. I also have written answers to every possible question from prospects that my new assistant and I could come up with. Asking the right questions seems to be the key when working with my new assistant.

Cold calling campaign:
Here are my stats - 62 prospects, 36 answered my call, 7 were interested, 0 was closed. By ‘interested’ I mean we continued our conversation. What surprised me was the large number of non-responders. To those who did not respond I sent an email with my cold email template I had made before.
Maybe there are some cold calling gurus here? What do you think of my stats?

This Week's Plan:
  • Work on a studio website: add a few new pages with quality content.
  • Select a few other industries and filter the prospects.
  • Continue with the cold calling campaign.

Hey I am a graphic designer AND UI/UX designer. Unlike you I do not have a solid plan. But if you need a helping hand I can be there

Weekly update

Hello world,

Studio website:
Last week I was mainly working on fixing issues with my other project, so not much progress here. Added a few more pages to the Studio website. In fact, the studio website is already starting to look quite complete. Later, I will probably need to add a blog to raise some topic authority, but I will do it next week. The rest of the week I will focus on cold calls.

Cold calling campaign:
Just scraped the info from the selected industry.

This Week's Plan:
  • filter the prospects and continue with the cold calling campaign until the end of the week. Need a first client ASAP.

There are many other threads here attempting to do same . You should go through them for ideas.

Hello @awesomewebsites
Could you please explain whats wrong with my plan and what new ideas I should incorporate into my plan? I am building it from 0 and my main idea is to build solid foundation with studio website focused on seo at first. After one month I have preaty solid website with my services and it already ranking at google. Week ago I started cold calling campaign. Could you advise, what should I additionally add to my plan?

Are you targeting one niche or scraping and pitching every one you can find.

Hello,
I have biuld a little scraper with Scrapy. Then selecting the niche, scraping the data, filtering it and starting cold calling. If business dont respont I sending email with my offer to them. Then selecting other niche and repeating all again. I wrote about my process earlier.
So, my first month was all about strong foundation and building the processes I could follow. If it make sence.

I built scraper for business directory site. I give main niche category url and scraper finds all the prospects in that category and subcategories if there are some. Of course, there are some duplicates, but my scraper filtering data.

Good luck Montoya, seems like a solid plan.

nice content here man always looking for an update

Good luck with your journey

Thank you guys. Your support means a lot to me.

Weekly update

Hello world,

Cold calling campaign:
It was a short week as I mainly worked on other project. But as planned I filtered my prospect from the selected niche and made 31 cold calls in one day. It was quite a tedious experience to be honest. But also kind of interesting. So, prospects 23 answered my call and 3 were ‘so so’ interested, but 0 was closed. I sent an email with my cold email template to those who did not respond to my call.

It seems to me that I should do some corrections in my cold calls scripts written by my NotebookLM AI assistant. So, I will experiment with cold call opening lines next week. And I feel that something is missing in order for me to be able to close my first deal. But let's try another round or cold calls in a different niche and then after 100+ calls I will have more data to draw some conclusions

This Week's Plan:
  • Work on a studio website: add one new page with quality content.
  • Select industry and filter the prospects for cold calls.
  • Continue with the cold calling campaign.
  • Make corrections after this round of calls is complete.

Weekly update

Hello world,

Studio website:
Added a few pricing pages. Mainly because of the keywords I am targeting. At this moment I think that I covered the main keywords I could rank with my website, so this week I will focus on SEO a little bit (tech. optimization, few backlinks, etc.).

Cold calling campaign:
Made some tweaks with opening lines on my cold call script. I would say it went pretty well. I made 37 cold calls last week. I feel that this is about the number of calls that I can comfortably make per week. Maybe the real sales gurus are laughing now because they make so many calls a day, but I'm not a salesperson. I will make cold calling my routine, but 8 calls per day will be my limit.

So, out of 37 cold calls 28 were answered, 5 were ‘so so’ interested and 2 of them were quite interested. We have planned follow up calls for tomorrow. Who knows, maybe I'll finally close my first client.

Also need to start thinking about a more targeted content campaign on social media. So far I've only posted general blah blah type of content. I think I will focus mainly on FB first, it is the most popular network in my country. I will look at what content my competitors are posting, what strategies they are using and what I could copy.

This Week's Plan:
  • Work on a studio websites SEO (tech. optimization, add few backlinks)
  • Check competitors on social networks
  • Continue with the cold calling campaign

What tools do you use for keywords research at the moment?

Hey, nothing fancy. For research using keywordseverywhere and google keyword planner. For rank tracking using RankTracker from link-assistant.
