Wondering, are we allowed to own a domain with the term Iphone in it? I don't want to buy a domain and build something around it, only to know that apple can take it away any time they'd like...

Thanks

Well considering that apple owns "iphone.com" I would think that they would care and probably not like it..

anyone cant get domain name belong to others in force.

I see websites like: MyFreeiPhone.com and etc. I'd contact Apple support and make sure they'd approve of it.

i have had one for a couple of months with no problems, but i had a facebook site get a C+D. you never know.

The name iPhone is a registered trademark, so yes it could get you in trouble, they could ask you to give it up. I have a domainname now with iPhone4 in it on autoblog, but yes they could contact me and ask me to give it up. But it was a free domain, so I don't care that much.

Sometimes, I think we need a good attorney to enlighten us here. Some of us just think and thought and feel..... We really don't know much about law because it's beyond our scope.

apple has lawyers on payroll that do nothing but sit around and look for ways for apple to make more money..

Im pretty sure if they found a website called appel-ifone.com they would try and sue.
Steve jobs is a greedy bastard.

Or people could just use some common fucking sense and figure out that (in the US) a trademark means somebody is protecting something they OWN.

Jesus the Jew, when will these trademark questions stop? You don't need to pay an attorney, it is very clear; If someone owns a trademark, you are risking having your domain taken from you. And don't even think about fighting it. It won't get to that point. You'll probably get email and/or postal mail telling you that you are infringing on a mark. If you ignore it, the owner of the mark will simiply tell your registrar or host to remove the site. This is pretty simple shit here people. Coca-Cola OWNS that name, Hewlett-Packard OWNS that name, Apple OWNS iPhone. Why do you think they'd let you use something they own without permission? If you decided to create a porno site called iphoneporn.com, and had videos of people having sex with monkeys, do you think Apple might object? Maybe???

Obviously you have to get caught first though. Maybe you won't. I personally own a website that has the name of a registered mark in it. I have yet to be caught but if I do I understand fully that I have no right to that name and will be forced to give up the domain.

He may or may not be but it has nothing to do with greed. It has everything to do with protecting something that you own, worked on and spent money on to create.

You will prob get popped quick and be asked to remove the domain or transfer it to them. Save your money.. One of my first domains was something fico and I got an email within a day from them asking me to remove it because it is trademarked.

All of you guys. Please comment If you know what you are talking about . If not Shut up and go do some research.

Here are the facts my friend;

IPhone is a trademark name yes. But trademarks are limited to a certain extend. Which means If you have a domain name that says "getiphone.com" that does not violate the trademark.

Most big comanies in US uses their legal team to intimidate others and grabs almost all domains that relates to their products. But if you are creative and find domains that they have not purchased yet, You are a lucky one!!!

However If you buy your domain from Godaddy(dot)com, it is very likely that they will steal your domain one way or another. Because godaddy is well known to do these type of practices. Just google godaddy took my domain or godaddy stole my domain.

YOUR BEST BET is to buy your domain with bullet proof companies overseas that do not have to comply with US laws and regulations that much. If they get a complaint they simply tell the plaintiff that they will investigate the issue, but most likely you don`t even hear back form them. Plus they keep your identity private. All other US companies must disclose If they been ordered to disclose by court.

I recommend namecheap or internet bs, or bing it to find domain name providers offshore.

I hope I helped you, If so please click to thanks

apple owns over 80% of the smart phone market and are being investigated by the FTC for being a monopoly.. Thats greed if you ask me.

a couple of years we have some. but until now they didn't ask us to take them down. i believe as long as the domains do not get loads of traffic or rank #1, they're not interested. so keeping them as low as needed and as much as wanted. works 100% longterm.

as long as you are not trying to impersonate that company or confuse people into thinking that you are affiliated with it then you are GOOD MONEY. . . . all you need is a line or two in your footer . . . iphone4fansite.com is not affiliated with or endorsed by apple.com or Steve Jobs greedy ass bah bah bah . . .
