I started a skateboarding channel about a month ago. Everything went fine for a few weeks, with me gaining up to 20 followers per day and seeing an increase in views. Then, one day, it all stopped. Only one follower unfollowed during this time. Views are still increasing, and there’s a lot of interaction and very high engagement. One video even went semi-viral (10k views), but I only gained four followers from it. Most of the viewers are non-followers. My account is clean and hasn’t been shadowbanned or anything like that. I have no clue what’s happening. The quality of content is also the same, or maybe even better. Does anyone have any explanation for this?

Don’t worry about gaining followers at this stage just keep posting like before. As long as you’re still getting views, you’re on the right track to gaining more subscribers.

Yeah, I know consistency is the key. But it's just weird that it stopped like that for no reason.

Is the alghorithm .....sometime changes the visibility of an account but if you post on long term should still be worth it

But as I mentioned, visibility has increased, and most of the views are from non-followers, so it doesn’t make sense that it stopped so suddenly. Perhaps it’s just variance—I had an extremely good start, so maybe this is just a dry period. One day, puff, I might gain 50 followers in a single day. Interesting world! We'll see

Try to reach to a similar account (or more) in your niche and tell them to make an exchange of shoutouts. Basically you will post a story with their latest post and mention them, and they will do the same for you. You will have new followers for sure. Just be sure that the accounts you're reaching they have legit followers and about the same number of followers as you. Good luck!

That's really good advice. Thank you

Also, Make sure - Engage more with your audience: Like, comment, and follow your followers and others in the Instagram community.
This will help you understand who your audience is, what topics your posts will cover, and much more..

Keep doing & you will get to increase real Followers! Good Luck

Well reel views are not directly correlated to gaining huge amount of followers, I have seen millions of views but only 50 followers gained from it.

Add a CTA in your video in the last to follow your account, and add the same thing in caption and then see how things work.

Thank you. I will try to do that

It just does that sometimes, like how random posts sometimes just blow up. As long as it's sporadic and not weeks on end it should be fine. Not to say there aren't things you can do to nudge the algo to your favour, but it's not necessarily a cause for concern.

Sounds like you are moving in the right direction so keep posting. As others mentioned algo can be weird sometimes and a small push via shoutouts should be helpful. Persistance is the key

Thank you for your support; I really appreciate it. Fortunately, I have other platforms that I’m also working to build up. YouTube was inactive for a while, but now it’s starting to grow little by little. It’s interesting to see where this journey takes me, especially since I don’t know much about skateboarding—I’m more of a marketing and business guy. However, if I can succeed in this niche, there’s no limit to what I can achieve in the future.

Perhaps people's involvement in this topic was quite low. I think due to low retention of people on the page, visits from recommendations gradually fell. I recommend finding pages with similar topics and exchanging ads - this way you will exchange activity.

Every channel has its ups and downs. I recommend that you continue with your daily sharing plan.

Mr.helanderio, Your situation could be due to:

  1. Casual Viewers: Many enjoy your content but don’t feel the need to follow.
  2. Algorithm Reach: Viral content may attract non-core audiences.
  3. No Call-to-Action: If you don’t prompt viewers to follow, they might not.
  4. Niche Competition: Skateboarding is competitive, so standing out is tough.
Are you using calls-to-action or engaging with viewers in comments?

Good points. I’ve started using CTAs in the description to encourage viewers to follow me. Sometimes, I reply to comments, though it’s a bit difficult because I don’t know much about skateboarding. However, I like all the comments.

That said, I think the number of followers isn’t as important nowadays. I try to focus more on getting views and engagement. Potential advertisers don’t care how many followers you have if your posts don’t get views and likes. Since most of my content gets views from non-followers, I believe follower count isn’t that significant.
