Making brands is impossible unless you are famous. 99% of people make money from AdSense and that's it.

yeah, I have my regular job youtube is like a hobby that pays a little bit every month, also some youtubers also mention they have a regular job as a plan B or they sell their own merc but they never have youtube as the only income source, anything else but not only youtube.
