Hmm, that's interesting. Thank you for this advice! We'll look into this....
Great! Good luck. I realised my post looks like I'm shilling Binom haha I'm not affiliated with them at all. Any ad tracker will work but without an ad tracker you're essentially flying blind.

I'll be following your journey!

This is going to be an interesting journey.

Wishing you the best! Hope you succeed

Wondering what traffic strategy are you using to get this huge 696k visits within so short period of time!

Is the whole website fully custom coded or using some base script?
I hear people use xtremefilesharing script. Is it any good?

My developers pushed new code this morning right before they got offline and I eventually found out that there is a bug in the code. This error comes up on every video!! It's frustrating because I tried to fix it, but I can't code. So I have to wait until they are back online.

Also, one of my ad networks told me that 70% of my traffic is bots, which is why the cpms are bad. Which is good. I have now realized why my cpm is so bad. So if I can fix the bot issue, then my cpms will go up and I'll finally start making some money.

So I get to spend the next 8 hours stressing that none of my uploaders will get mad at me and stop using my platform. And I also have to hope that this doesn't drive any new uploaders away.

Part of me doesn't even want to try to advertise today. Because if I advertise and get people to visit our file host, it won't do anything because it isn't working properly.

AHHHHH!!!!

did you backup your pervious code? well it's a small error a developer who know what it is he can end this in 1 hours

hope you reach ur goals :)

I decided to create this journey to monitor my progress, and hopefully get some advice from the community, and hopefully motivate some of you guys! :) Let's see where this can take me:

Background & Overview:
- In May 2024 I sold my ecommerce store for just shy of $100k
- I am not a developer and don't know how to write a line of code
- Video/File host has been in development everyday since May!
- I stumbled across this niche and always wanted to own a "software" company
- Large competitors profit $100k+ a month (don't ask how i know ;) )

End of January Goal: $5k
End of February Goal: $10k
End of March Goal: $20k
End of April Goal: $50k

These are some big (and delusional) goals. It could be possible, I just need to be really smart and work hard.

Here are some of our expenses before launching:
Domain: $11,000 (I regret this, but you live and you learn)
Development: $15,329
Servers: $1,275
Misc: ~$1,000

The issue with not being able to write a line of code, is that I have to wait on developers to finish certain tasks. I have so much motivation to just work 24 hours a day (It has been frustrating waiting for them to finish).
I'm thankful that I have the money to be able to hire these developers, otherwise this journey would come to an end really quickly.

I am basing my business off of Streamtape. They are a massive competitor, and we have a very similar structure and look to them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- Not only do we have to match them, but we need to be better in some way to actually gain uploaders.

-----We launched on January 1st of this year-----

What are you doing about Legal issues?

I didn't want to own a file host that has to worry about the FBI knocking on my door. And so, we follow all laws, which means we'll have to occasionally take down certain DMCA content.

What are you doing to grow?
Marketing is the biggest task and the most important thing to focus on (besides development & product improvement). At first, I would post a thread on forums, such as WJunction, BHW and others. In other words, I am going to where my target audience is. This has honestly not been that bad, but the growth was a burst at the beginning, and have started to fade out. So instead of having my customer go to me, I have decided to go to my customer.

I got a list of 5000+ referring domains of Streamtape and Doodstream to see all the different websites that use them as a host. I hired someone to go through each website and to retrieve and email (if there is one) and I am using an email bot to send an email sequence to each of the emails. It's hard to track how well this is doing, but it's been pretty slow tbh.

Growth/users since launching January 1st:

(Our website went down on the 8th, which is where you see that dip. And the main spike is because someone pushed a bunch of proxy traffic to the website)

We have had almost 700k+ visit from our uploaders in 13 days. This is nice, but I know that Streamtape has 3,000,000 daily users, so there is a lot of room to grow (55x).

How much money have we generated since launching?
We are using ads on the videos to generate money (mainly popads).

This is where I am starting to get scared. We have generated only $121 since launching. You might think, "oh! That's not too bad". Yes, yes it is.

We have given our affiliates/uploaders $1200 in payouts since launching. So, this is definitely not profitable (at this time). And then if you include server costs and development costs, we need to be making 10x just to break even.

Is there any hope?
Here is the good news, our CPM with our ad networks is dog-awful. I am talking $0.02 cpm. Which means if we can increase our CPM, we can start making more money (how do i do this? idk).

I have done some calculations and Streamtape makes about $.001075 for every visitor on their website. We make $.000176 per visitor. And so, if we improve our cpm by 10x, we'll be just in line with Streamtape.

- I will try and update this journey every few days, to keep track of progress and let you guys know how it's going. That's it guys. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

WISH ME LUCK !!!
I wish you luck!

Woow looks promising, what is ur payout for uploader for every 1000 watch ?
Depends where the view comes from. But can earn $35 for 10,000. And right now we are counting everything, adblocked views, vpn views, everything.

since you are in the US , you have to have a DMCA agent . and your website info should be on the DMCA Designated Agent Directory. dmca.copyright.gov/dmca/search.html

Updates:

- Fixed a tus upload issue. Found out that one of our users uploaded files more than their storage limit, but the file was stored in temporary storage & database. Due to the limit being exceeded, the user's files were not properly uploaded. Added a feature which will disable the user to upload the file from API & FTP if they exceed limit. (Default is 200GB, but we add any amount to any account).
- Debugged an "Unexpected token" error
- Added custom thumbnails and thumbnail snapshot selection
- Added "select all" for videos to easily get export links

Bad news:
- Our website had an issue with videos for the entire day yesterday! I told people to select "normal ads" in settings, and it would go away. This was just a temporary fix, but if a user didn't select "normal ads", then their videos would have an error. I hate when issues like this come up! I am paying out affiliates more if they had to deal with this issue.

Good news:
- One of our ad networks is having it's CPM constantly increase. Part of that is because a lot more USA impressions.

Going to work on getting more users/uploaders to our website! LETS GOOOOOO!!!! :D

That looks interesting I am a developer and know all these hustles that you are going on and I know how stressful it is but wish you the best with your journey

Do you have developers on salary or contract? What sort of contract works good for such long projects?

Nice journey! You need to get in touch with proper managers from those CPM networks and demand, oh yeah, demand proper rates cause trust me, they bank pretty hard on you. And don’t buy the old shit reason with the bot traffic cause ain’t true at all. Contact Clickadu, Clickaine, Adcash and ask them for some proper managers, share your stats and negotiate the CPM rate. Tier 3 traffic on those networks are from 0.5 to 0.8 and even more. Tier 2 goes above 1-1,5 and Tier 1 goes up a lot. As I said negotiate it till bleeds out. They need you!

Screenshotting this. Thanks a lot man!!

UPDATE:

One major thing I'm trying to deal with is bots/fake traffic. I tried to use Cloudflare's "Managed Challenge" to help deter this traffic, but it doesn't work with iFrame embeds.

Anyone have any ideas on how I could help mitigate this issue?

Traffic is slowly increasing. Still need to make more money with the ad networks. Realistically, 10x more.

We can force users to turn off adblock, and also not count traffic that is VPN, which I don't even know how to do.....

There are services out there to detect bots/proxied users like some cloaking software has a database of residential proxy providers and will block requests from those IP's. That should get the bulk of it but also might be expensive for the amount of impressions you get. I think the easier option is to have the bot check to happen when the popup opens so you can send proxy traffic to a seperate link.

If you can show the advertising network that you do your own bot checks, they will have to give you the best rates possible
