What should I do? Does cold calling work?

I've finally managed to rank my site consistently for my own business. It's all local SEO stuff for my local city.

I would like to sell these services to other businesses in town.

I try to differentiate myself by telling them I am a local business owner like them and not some guy from India scamming them.

I've called 30 places so far and had zero interest. Some got enough business from word of mouth and didn't care. 2 or 3 already had an SEO guy. The rest I couldn't get through their secretaries.

What am I doing wrong? Have I just not tried enough people?

You need to call a bunch of more businesses, the more you call the better you get at selling, selling takes time to learn. Try calling 2-300 businesses at bare minimum. Ask questions at the same time so you learn why the don´t buy, so you can adjust your calls.

I think, like others have said, you got 30, but you should be really going after 100+ a day. Rejection is the best as the more you hear it, the less it bothers you, and then you can work on your script more. @CPANathan, I think he does this, and maybe he can help you with a few pointers.

Yeah I've literally never cold called in my entire life so i have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to be as natural as possible. No real script and if I do have one it's trash I'm sure.

You need boots on the ground and to figure out and show where the receiver of the call actually needs the help, if you've got something ranking then you've got points proven. :)

Keep at it, it's not easy but it can be rewarding!

And as MrNewbie suggested, you gotta be good with the rejections - there's a way to get people thinking again without being a d*ck...

You can steer away from no's with practice and hover in the "what is this guy actually talking about" stage :D

and 90% of this is done by not sounding like a narrator and putting a smile on

I don't think ranking one business necessarily mean you can rank other business reliably. That may be part of the issue.

May be hiring some experience guy for this job will work. Cold calling is skill job , not everyone can do it.
