Hey everyone, new member here (thanks to those who welcomes in introductions thread).

I started an ecommerce site that was ranking relatively well with approx 125+ ranked kw's (top 30) with 15 or so being in the top 3.

I made some minor """""enahncements""""" to my site before the keywords completely tanked, those being -

1. In the footer, I changed the homepage link anchor text from Home to instead be my main homepage keyword "X Apparel" (without giving my site details away, replace X with any niche you can think of).

2. I created a Read More block which I utilised on 3 or 4 collections (of about 60 total). These collections had basic content in the Read More,, 300-400 words, each h2 to include a keyword once, 1x strong tag of each keyword in the text, and 4 internal links to other collections + 1 link to homepage with rotating keywords (so each homepage link would rotate through homepage keywords).

3. I removed the Contact Us details from footer as the footer was looking janky, and there is already a contact us form on homepage + every policy page has contact us details + there is a contact us page.

Within a day or two of making these changes my keyword rankings completely disappeared and I now only rank for 2 keywords in positions like 28.

I have reverted these changes. I changed the homepage anchor text in footer back to "Home", I added Contact Us details back into the footer and cleaned it up, and I removed the read more block on the 3 collections that were using it.

Prior to this drop I was running ads about 6-8 weeks ago but haven't been running them since and my organic traffic was still decent (despite being lower than when I was running ads) - I even decided to start running basic search ads again (Just a few dollars a day) in the hopes it would help Google see me as reputable.

It's been about a week but my keywords are still completely dead.

Is there anyway to know if I have been penalised for something? Any tool or service that can do an auto review or something like that?

I have checked basic stuff on GSC, nothing is standing out to me outside the heavy drop on impressions.

I did also hear about a core update or something around this time? My site is relatively new (less than 6 months old), I have no SEO content outside of homepage (and the 3 collections which I mentioned above), I have a DA of 0 (actually it's 1 now but that's a new development) and I have done no link building.

Pic for reference.

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks for the reply, does this phenomenon have a name so I can look into it?
