Got hit on low DA sites and was replaced by corporate sites, tiktok, buzzfeed.
But high DA expired domain sites are getting huge traffic bumps, seems like the following is exactly what i am experiencing on my portfolio
Mark Williams-Cook and his team at Candour Agency have uncovered a massive cache of Google’s internal data, revealing how the search engine ranks websites.

This discovery was shared on December 15, 2024, and earned the team a $13,337 reward from Google’s Vulnerability Reward Program due to the high-risk nature of the exposed information.

The team analyzed over 2 terabytes of data from 90 million search queries, uncovering key insights into Google’s ranking systems. Here’s what they found:

Site Quality Scores: Websites are graded on a scale from 0 to 1. A score of 0.4 or higher is needed to access special features like featured snippets or “People Also Ask” boxes. Scores are influenced by brand searches, user clicks (even when the site isn’t ranked first), and how often the site’s name appears in links across the web.
Content Consensus: Google checks how well content matches the general consensus on a topic. For factual queries, like “Is the Earth flat?”, it promotes content that supports scientific consensus. For more subjective topics, results include a variety of viewpoints.
Query Types: Google sorts searches into categories like yes/no questions, definitions, or comparisons. These categories help adjust how results are ranked to match user intent.
Click Probability: While Google doesn’t directly use click-through rates to rank pages, it predicts how likely people are to click on a result. Factors like page titles can influence these predictions.
Special Rules for Sensitive Topics: For critical subjects like health or finance, Google uses stricter criteria to prioritize user safety and reliability.

based on my analysis, websites with high amount of backlinks seems to be recovering back, and sites with little to no backlink with high traffic goes down.

What type of backlinks were made for the site? Might be good time to switch to a new seo provider. You can try sellers on BHW also.
 
One of my sites that got hit by updates is starting to gain some rankings on some keywords, the increase is nothing crazy. Do you think it has some chance of getting back to life?

Here is the old stats, almost completely disappeared from google search.

Impressions jumped from 20 a day to 300-400, let's see how it goes in the upcoming days.

Stats from ahrefs: looks like the amount of keywords the site ranks jumped from 10 to 100

I saw some fluctuations in only one website (some kws appear and disappear from Google), but visits seems stable.

Now the sats for last 3 months + yesterday. Also, check Discover. is it back? If yes, there might be sings of recovery.

Even i am seeing similar thing on 2 of my sites on 19-20 dec it's showing huge spike and these are websites which got hit in last many updates from march and last nov 2023

Didn't build any backlinks, there are some natural ones that I didn't build.

It seems you're not alone, many are experiencing ranking drops after the December 2024 Spam Update.

It’s a good idea to review your SEO and ensure your content and backlinks align with Google’s guidelines. Keep monitoring for any further changes.
 
I was doing better with every update in the past 1 year, this december spam got me bad.
