Just buying the expired domain wouldn't guarantee you will get lots of traffic. There are multiple ranking factors that you need to apply to get traffic for your website.

Check for penalties in Google Search Console, disavow bad backlinks, update quality content, and request manual indexing.

Normally root domain get indexed easily. What about the quality of the content? If this is okay then what about your backlink strategy?

Your site might not be indexing because the expired domain could have penalties or low trust with search engines. Check Google Search Console for errors, disavow bad backlinks, and submit a sitemap to speed up indexing.
Is the site ranking for any keywords ?
Have you mentioned thr site multiple times on social media ?
If answer is no to both, how do you expect traffif ?

Have you checked if the domains are indexing, reviewed their past history, and confirmed they are free from penalties? If everything is in order, simply create and publish new content, then wait for it to index. Alternatively, you can use indexing services to speed up the process.

How long it has been since you published articles.
Expired domains are tricky, some get indexed instantly and some go into dormant period, my success rate with expired domains is around 80%, one of my expired domain remained de-indexed for two months and then out of blue it started indexing.
Best is to make sure you have submitted to Google search console. Sitemap is readable, and check pages section, if showing "Discovered currently not indexed" then click "inspect" icon for any url, and then "test live url" make sure that there are no errors and that it is available for Google to index.
After that it is just about how lucky you can get

Have you build backlinks for the site ? When you build backlinks, more pages will get indexed and you will also start ranking for more keywords thus giving you traffic.
