This looks fun.

Willow’s performance on this benchmark is astonishing: It performed a computation in under five minutes that would take one of today’s fastest supercomputers 1025 or 10 septillion years. If you want to write it out, it’s 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years. This mind-boggling number exceeds known timescales in physics and vastly exceeds the age of the universe. It lends credence to the notion that quantum computation occurs in many parallel universes, in line with the idea that we live in a multiverse, a prediction first made by David Deutsch.

David Deutsch's interpretation of the so called "many worlds hypotheses" when it comes to quantum computing is actually pretty mind bending: he says that when a quantum computer is running a quantum algorithm, so are the many (infinitely many?) counterparts of said computer in other parallel universes. So basically, they are "in sync" during the execution of the algorithm. Just like when you're distributing work among many CPU cores, but instead of cores you have universes XD crazy stuff

I highly recommend his book "The Fabric of Reality". Since he is a major defender of the "many world hypotheses", the book is extremely biased , but a very interesting read nonetheless.
 
just imagine someone can have access to one of those computers in just seconds could what usually take months or years, a new universe of posibilities that won't be used well and help humanity will be used as a weapon for sure :suspicious:

Hahahah or may be G is not focusing on SE anymore, and purely focusing on computational programming stuffs. They know they are one of the very few who can actually pull this off (a.k.a the FAANG). :D

I dunno man, I just wanna sell my crypto a week before this happens. :)

G is like a giant company, where the company as a whole has severe ADHD.

They can pull everything off, they try to pull everything off and fall flat on their heads.

If they can't fix search, they should simply sell it off or bring in a new partner who can then handle that end.
 
Sounds pretty insane! It is coming from Google, so it cannot be completely false. This is kind of scary for security though.
I dunno if your sarcastic or not :) But since it comes from Google, that's the first reason I don't trust it

Imagine Google going rogue... And Pichai just sitting in his office plugged into Willow with a list of BTC wallets with the highest balances. Damn.

But I am not kidding!! :D They do have the money to do this. Like those people back in the 1800s and 1900s had for completely different reasons. :)
 
Ehhh I don't believe in that multiverse shit... I mean there are multiple possibilities, but they aren't literally happening at the same time. Some things are more likely to happen than others but it's never 100% (hence future isn't 'written in stone'). If you have some precognitive ability then you're more likely to see the outcome that has 99% chance of happening but also other things can happen instead, it can be changed, etc. I don't think all this stuff is happening at the same time though.

Fun to watch on sci-fi tv series *shrugs*.

Computing power vs Encryption algorithms have been and will always be a cat-and-mouse game.

Google’s quantum computer, Willow, has a bit over 100 physical qubits.
Bitcoin uses SHA256 encryption algorithm for addresses, and breaking that with a quantum computer in a timely manner would require a minimum of a few hundred thousand physical qubits.

So, there’s still a lot to improve on if we as a humanity wanted to even break SHA256, which do keep in mind, is almost as old as Jesus (not really, but it’s still from 2001).


Cryptocurrencies can also change their encryption algorithms pretty much at anytime we as people want to change it.

There’s nothing to fear. People just like to fear monger on the internet.
