I don't think Chrono24 needs to worry about this kind of stuff..they are a well-established company with international presence, it's probably relevant for them, but not applicable for our micro blogs

I don't see any benefit with local TLD, but recently niche relevancy has become important to google, so it is possible that the web owner simply buys bulk local TLDs to setup same niche sites and use them for backlinks, i have seen this being done on many sites, and according to analysis tools they are doing well.
