Nofollow, No sh!t

Google have always indexed nofollow links. Nothing new about that. So, what's your freaking point!? Now you noticed as well and that means the nofollow attribute is just for 'fun'? Get real!

I mean nofollow attribute is for PR only not for ranking. I don't give a .... for PR because it's something that newbies get into but I do care about serps which brings traffic.

If you study backlinks of some websites you will realize that some websites with only nofollow backlinks and good on page optimization have ranking for some keywords. so nofollow backlinks still do help.

See, now you put forth a new argument, which is a whole other discussion. So why don't you just get your shit straight 'till you post again!

According to Google no links with the nofollow attribute will pass any PageRank juice. Your argument is that since Google index nofollow links (wow, what a surprise!), it is all just a myth (the links do pass PageRank juice). Sorry, but that is not a valid argument (just plain stupid).

Now you say you don't even care about PageRank (I really hope you mean that you don't care about the exact PageRank of your site, and not that you dismiss the whole PageRank system), which makes me wonder why you even brought it up?

Thanks for sharing this important topics. I'm new for SEO so I want learn SEO. Please tell me how I start my lesson.

How i understand do follow and Nofollow link?

ya i think having a combination of both follow and do follow links as backlinks will make the (black hat) seo of the site to appear more natural:slomo:

I agree. My sites have done so much better since I stopped spending time finding do follow and just decided to build link without checking.

I did another experiment today. I'm targeting a high search volume health related term. The first and second result are both hubpages and one of them with 124 backlinks and the other with 31 backlinks.

For the one with 124, it is all blog comments on related wp blogs. Out of these 124, 124 (100%) were not follow and this proves my theory that google still values links with not follow tag. Maybe they use it only for PR but for ranking it is still good.

For the other result with the 31 backlinks, they are all profile backlinks. some on forums and some on bookmarking websites. So profile backlinks also work.

I'm now analyzing the sites they used for backlinks and will be posting to them as well as my current activities in blog commenting / profile building.

Hubpages usually do have a lot of trust regardless of their backlinks. What about other competiting pages? What about their backlink structure? it would be really heplful if you could present example keywords (that you are not tageting :P)

Maybe you should read my post then reboot your pc and read my post again then reply? You claim that I said things while I didn't say them. reboot...

What I'm saying is 2 things.

google considers nofollow attribute when accumulating pr
Google doesn't consider nofollow tag when putting search rankings.

unfortunately I closed that window earlier and can't remember the word since it is not a keyword that I'm targeting (was thinking to)

But I'm sure if you examine the backlinks of the first 3 results for many keywords like I do you will notice that.

blog commenting and profile backlinks are becoming too common and most blog comments from wordpress are nofollow. The example that I noticed had 100% nofollow backlinks yet ranking #1

I'm posting comments on nofollow blogs with scrapebox and my sites still increase serp positions, and their PR increased in 2 months from 0 to 3, Micallef - don't tell bullshit that nofollow links are useless

So you are saying that the PageRank system is just a number that doesn't have an effect on the SERPs? That's even more stupid!
Have you ever read "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine" by Lawrence Page.
Give it a read.

"It is one of the more important of the 200 signals that we have".
So, the PageRank system does affect the SERPs. Great to get that straight.

Yes.. Pagerank is a factor, and a major one, but only one of some 200 factors. Just get links where ever you can!

Please don't use Matt Cutts as the source for information. He is part of the Web Spam team and doesn't know everything about google. His job is to fight spam... that includes the dissemination of false information to thwart would-be and existing spammers. Look at how well nofollow as worked to keep a whole lot of you from trying to get links. Google 1, BHers 0.

Please stop posting theories as facts. Your conspiracy theory posted here is not necessarily true, but you are passing it off as fact.

I admit I have sometimes been guilty of a few poorly thought out replies in the past, but this still does not excuse others such as yourself from doing it. Worse, new inexperienced linkbuilders on the forum, who have a very strong incentive for believing that nofollow is effective for rank as it's all they can figure out at the moment, will be helplessly inclined to believe you simply because it makes their percieved job a lot easier.

Don't take this post the wrong way. Your opinions might be true, they might not be. You do not have strong evidence.

Further, I have reason to believe that PR is the most salient of Google's ranking factors - although less-so than it previously has been. This is because my most successful tactic with regard to achieving Google rank is still brute force high PR spam links from mainly non related websites. I still view PR as the backbone around which all the other ranking factors are arranged. It's a multiplier, so even if other factors for your site are scoring very low, a strong influx of PR will multiply the score to a considerable degree.

Really... Lets take a look again:

Fact - "Pagerank is a factor, and a major one, but only one of some 200 factors." --- This has been stated time again by Google themselves... I say Google because it's not just Matt Cutts that has said it.

Fact - "He is part of the Web Spam team and doesn't know everything about google." --- This is a fact, he is part of the Web Spam team only and doesn't know everything going on. When he released his Mayday video he even said it's not his thing, but the quality departments.

Fact - "His job is to fight spam" --- That's what his job description says.

Fact - "that includes the dissemination of false information to thwart would-be and existing spammers." --- Good ol' Matty himself has stated clearly in the past that their strategy with spammers is to make spamming as frusrating and costly as possible. I can't even count the number of ways he has implimented this over the years.. from reporting paid links to reporting spam links.. to yes.. nofollow. This dates way back to remarks made back in 2005, so I don't expect everyone here to be aware of even remember.

So show me how I was posting theory as fact in my post? It seems every word was factual.

Just so you don't feel too bad.. I have included a picture of your fearless leader. Your Google-Buddha, only with hair. Evil spammers beware of his wrath!

Google 2, BHers 0.

When you are this scary, you need mind tricks.

Please refer to the pyschological study they did back in 2005 on the mind set of spammers vs. natural sites.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

No Follow Links do not pass page rank, and does not pass authority.

When you have a no follow link on a web page the webmaster is simply telling Google that they don?t want to be associated with that link, hence the name ?NO FOLLOW?

You may get traffic from that link and Google does see the link, but it has no affect in the serps.

Review... 200+ factors (for simplicity we will say 200).. PageRank.. 1 of 200. Nofollow = No PageRank Passed. 200 factors - 1 = 199 other factors for nofollow links.

Am I the only one here that sees the basic math in this? :proud:

I agree with the OP here. I once had a single no follow link that gave me a huge jump in rankings. The whole do follow link is over exaggerated. Look at it this way, Google rewards your site for natural looking back links.

Does it expect the average Internet user to check for no follow tags and do follow tags when they leave a link to a page. It doesn't make sense. They probably came out with terms like that to discourage widespread spamming of pages just because they were do follow.

imo, it all depends on the niche the site is in. i've got an obscure niche that is pr3 but i did nothing with it for 2 years. i hadn't updated the site or built links during that time.

i've got another niche that i worked hard to build links for and updated constantly, but is still a pr 0. imo, it all depends on the competition of the keywords your site is going after....

but you know, w/G...you never know...what worked yesterday won't work tomorrow..and what will work tomorrow might not work today.

from my experience, just don't worry about what G will do...because G's not the only game in town anymore.....

PR aside, how do you rank for the two niches? It would be interesting to know.
