your post is kinda misleading to be honest. For 2 reasons... maybe more, but these 2 are popping up in mind at the moment...

1) PR gets special treatment from google. It's a well known fact that successful PR campaigns can flood your site with traffic and links within days, so this is not how you bust a "myth" on link blasts :)

2) 180 links means nothing. When we talk about blasts we mean 100s or 1000s of links simultaneously, from normal or garbage sources, and those links can indeed hurt a site if they're done too many, too fast... especially if the site is fresh and has nothing else (traffic, links, and rankings) going on with it...
 
Yeah that's my point. Its not the speed or volume of links that kills your site. Its the fact that they tend to come from spammy/crappy low quality link blasts.

I dont think that "PR" links get special treatment. Its just that good links are just...well... good. :)
