Sudden drop in subreddit traffic and visibility

I manage a growing subreddit that was performing really well until recently, with steady daily growth and consistent engagement. However, over the past two days, traffic has dropped drastically, growth has slowed to a trickle, and our visibility in key areas has disappeared entirely.

Here’s some context: By two weeks ago, several users posted videos related to the Israel-Palestine conflict that gained significant traction. Although we moderated these posts quickly and removed explicit or controversial content, the impact seemed to linger. Since then, the subreddit’s traffic and reach have plummeted.

I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar. Could these viral posts, even after moderation, have triggered some kind of algorithmic penalty or manual review? And if so, is there a way to reverse it?
