I prefer is reddit and quora and what not goes in their own tabs and stop flooding my results with reddit post without answers or stupidity comments.

I'll answer for him since I agreed with his post: because - as a SEO - it is 1-2 few less spots for sites to compete for, which makes competition tougher

This is not new, has been so for a while now. But just as in the screenshot you provided, some forums also rank in the regular search result outside of the forum group.

I think those in that group would get less clicks. They'll only get clicks when other result's failed to answer the query.
