hello i am traveling in china and having problem with gmail, if i use vpn or proxy i send files via gmail can the chinese government secretly read my gmail content. someone advised me to use vps in neighboring country then use proxy or vpn but i don't know which one to choose, i am quite worried that someone will secretly open and read gmail even though it is just gmail for normal work exchange

I don’t think so. This is why ssl exists.

Sure, they know you went to gmail, but I do not think they will know what data you sent.

Wanna be smarter? Use a self hosted vpn on top.

If you use gmail, Google will definitely read your emails. I would be much more worried about that.

There are VPN providers that have a special function for China, which disguises the fact that you are using a VPN, as VPNs are banned in China.

Don't worry about content leakage from your Gmail, Tg, WhatsApp, etc. As long as you don't punish the laws of the land (plotting riots, maligning, guns, drugs, money laundering...) , that's all the government cares about, then you are very safe.

thanks, it's just normal data but i want to make them spend years (if they want to read it secretly) just to read my data, when they successfully decrypt my data yes it's just a normal travel video. lol

If you plan to go to a bigger city and anything, you can contact the police to help, you are a foreigner and they will prioritise you.
