Introduction

Hey BHW,
I’ve been a member of this forum since 2010, and over the years, I’ve launched (and crashed) countless projects. Some turned out to be massive successes, while others were complete disasters. But one thing has remained constant: internet marketing has been my primary source of income for over 15 years.

This time, I want to do something different—a collaborative journey where we decide together how to move forward. Everything I do will be transparent and shared (except for sensitive information that needs to remain private). The goal is to involve the community, share insights, and adapt our approach based on your feedback.

The Concept

Everything in internet marketing comes down to one thing: traffic. Without a source of traffic, it doesn’t matter how optimized your funnel is or how great your product might be. But if you have traffic, you can target it, convert it, and scale it to your needs.

This journey is focused on generating inbound traffic and leads using a somewhat old-school method: phone calls. Sure, phone calls may seem outdated, but they have a unique advantage—they’re far less controlled by Big Tech platforms. In particular, I’m going to focus on automated, robotized calls (missed calls, IVR, pre-recorded messages, etc.).

Let’s not dive into discussions around privacy or regulations. We all know projects like this require a solid layer of anonymization. I’m not here to debate ethics; let’s focus on the execution.

What’s Been Done So Far

Step 1: Setup and Configuration

  • I’ve completed the setup of Vicidial to handle up to 250 concurrent calls.
  • I’ve identified tolerant VoIP carriers with streamlined setup and verification processes to move quickly.
  • I have access to a list of phone numbers that can be segmented by country, gender, and age range (28-60 years, with an average around 40).
Step 2: Testing Missed CallsI ran an initial test to evaluate the response to missed calls. Here’s the setup and what we’ve done:

  • Created a WhatsApp account with a friendly profile picture of a young woman (non-provocative).
  • Set this number as the caller ID for the missed calls, matching the nationality of the recipients.
  • There was no monetization funnel in place; the focus was purely on monitoring responses.
  • If someone answered the call, they would hear a 3-second apology message before the system disconnected.
Technical Details:

  • The test was capped at 3 calls per second, which was the limit of the carrier used.
  • This speed could be increased using multiple carriers or multiple accounts with the same carrier, but it would add complexity and wasn’t necessary for a simple test like this.

Results of the Test

  • Missed Calls Sent: Exact number unknown due to practical limitations.
  • Target Audience: Male, European country.
  • Total Spend on Campaign: Around €8 for call costs.
  • Inbound Interactions:
    • WhatsApp: 36 messages (mostly “You’re beautiful”, “Are you an angel?”, etc.).
    • SMS: 18 messages (more generic, like “Who are you?”, “Are you the courier?”).
  • Revenue: €0 (no monetization attempted yet)

Analysis and Community Involvement

Alright, so here we are. We’ve generated 54 interactions between WhatsApp and SMS with minimal spend, but there’s no monetization funnel in place yet.

The question now is: what do we do with these results? Are these interactions worth anything? Can we monetize them somehow? Or should we keep testing before committing to a full conversion funnel?

I’ve got a few ideas on where to go from here, but I really want to hear from you. What would you do at this point? Should we focus on scaling up traffic first, or jump straight into monetization? Does it make sense to stick with missed calls, or should we pivot to testing automated calls with pre-recorded messages and IVR?

I’m open to all your thoughts. Let me know what you think and how you’d approach the next steps!

Technical Breakdown and Costs

Here’s a quick breakdown of the investments made so far:

  1. Vicidial Setup and Configuration: $500
  2. VoIP Carrier Credit (testing and interconnection): $100
  3. Phone Numbers for WhatsApp and Caller ID: $20
  4. Cost of Missed Call Campaign: €8
Total Investment So Far: $628
Total Interactions Generated: 54 (36 on WhatsApp + 18 SMS)
Cost per Interaction: Approx. $0.15
Revenue: $0

I'm a lil bit sad that noone is interested in this...

How you plan to make money with this method ? How much per lead will it worth be ?
I have not focused on this, but on the concept that missed calls can bring some kind of traffic in some way, and it did.

We can say that those leads are somehow "prequalified", since those people added the numbers to their contact (probably many did this part), and when they have seen the picture of the girl, they decided to send a cheer.

So, they are somehow prequalified for the dating niche.

Anyway, as i said, i'd like this to be an interactive journey, so feel free to suggest a conversion funnel, or any other suggestion, and i'm going to implement it and share the results.

This is an interesting twist, gonna watch this and see how it turns out, nice.

Ok, so share your suggestion on what i should do next.

There are 2 possible way:

1- Those incoming "leads" made by generating missed calls has a value that is superior to the "live variable" cost used to generate em (7.7 €), let's test some kind of conversion funnel.
- Which kind of funnel?

2- Those incoming leads are basically worthless, let's move on to Robocall-Ivr script to get qualified leads.
- Flow will be like: Presentation audio, with opt out digit > Secondary presentation of the products niche and possible qualification choice for the user >Final message and digits to press to receive an sms/whatsapp with closing instructions.
- Which kind of niche/product?

3- Other.

Feel free to propose and i'll implement it nearly real time.

Quick update:

Basicalyl, the missed calls test performed before continued to produce results (in the form of incoming interactions through whatsapp/sms).

Get got another 10 contacts on whatsapp and 3 through sms, so those are the new stats.

67 incoming interactions, of what 46 contacting the whatsapp girl profile are somehow decent for 8€ live calls expenses.

I have decided to repeat a missed calls campaigns of that size, but with a conversion funnel through whatsapp autoresponder, to drive traffic to dating offers or OnlyFans revshare programs.

Any suggestion on how do you like to see this funnel implemented?

I also thought to open a JV thread in addition to this, what do you think about ?

Go here - https://www.similarweb.com/website/truecaller.com/#geography

Click on "View all Countries"

See the Market Penetration for Truecaller (or a similar competing app) in the country you're targeting.

If there's enough of it, create a Truecaller Profile and buy their Premium for a month.

It's extremely popular here in India and it basically shows a Popup, right before the call arrives (or when it's ringing) and shows you the name of the caller who's calling. Normal users/Premium show up in Blue, while numbers frequently marked as spam show up in a red box.

Any call out we make, we ensure it is installed and setup first.

That's a VERY NICE suggestion, but i have a question:

Since we are generating missed calls, those information (name of the caller, blue pop), they are available also when the user find the missed call?

If yes, this can definitely increase the "inbound" leads generated by the missed calls.
