Confusion about doing internal linking for my site

I have a 1-2 month-old site and I have 2-3 categories related to the niche.

Let's take an example - I have a site niche in football so, I have one category for how to play, nearby football shops and clubs, Football history, and best players in 2024/2023 likewise.
It's better to internal link pages with high-quality indexed pages of the content I have. I got this advice from the YouTube video ofc. Now, I have 3 indexed pages that are high quality but these 3 pages are from different categories, how did the internal linking process start? If one topic is from nearby football shops and clubs then, is it advisable to internal link pages with the high-volume keyword so, that content will be crawled and indexed by Google? Is cross-interlinking a good practice to do as I will internally link the topics of best players with how to play or nearby football shops and clubs? Giving linking to highlight anchor text or add read more, also reading this after paragraphs will be a good practice to do? Doing these tasks will via plugins such as link whisper will be a good option for me but I am confused. What will work for me.

Yes, I think its cross linking categories. For example, if you have a page on "best players" and one on "how to play like them," linking between them adds context and encourages user engagement. Google values these connections. You can use plugin link whisper, it will help you finding the link connections.

You can add and use as many internal links as it fits, don't worry about the categories, type of posts, etc...
You're very less likely to overdo the internal linking, the limit is 100 links/page for Google,
Probably less would be better for new websites with fewer pages, around 30-50 should be good (including the navigational links),

You can add links by random relevant text (anchors) in the current content (ex: when mentioning some player name, you can link from the name),
You can add a small paragraph that suggests checking/reading any of your pages,
You can add the post title between paragraphs (random posts with or / read more),

The thing is, you have to balance the overall internal links of the website,
The main (cornerstone) page/posts should get most of the links

How do I do the internal linking when I have topic clusters? I think in this situation cross-category linking is not allowed. How will I identify which is my main/cornerstone content?

It's better to interlink articles that are related in one way or another
link whisper will make things easier

Instead of linkwhisper, use the linkboss tool. Linkboss has the silo tool that is really useful for topic clustering. And anchor suggestion of linkboss is more natural than link whisper.
