Hello,

In this thread, I am going to talk about NotebookLM or more specifically NotebookLM.google - most of you must be aware of it, so I thought I'd announce it before.

Before anything else, checkout this AI Podcast video about BHW

This took me all of 6 minutes to make - from the time I generated the audio to uploading it to Youtube.

Imagine what can be done with an hour on this and some AI Generated characters.

Don't miss the part where they talk about me, aka your friendly, neighborhood BlogPro!

So... What is NotebookLM?

It's a tool by Google, that let's you manage your personal customised AI - with Gemini 1.5 powering it in the backend.

Think of like training it on very niche data with upto 50 sources (Huge Docs, Youtube Videos, Ebooks, Even websites)

Once it has absorbed your information, it is ready to answer any and every question about this.

I have been using it extensively in the past few days to absorb information through a variety of sources and then refer to that information as and when I need.

What I have used it for?

Knowledge Farm / Learning

I am so far removed from the Guru or Buy Sell Methods Bullshit, that the thought of reading and ebook makes me want to throw up in my mouth. But every once in a while, a publication is worth it all. Especially those that introduce you to topics. Then you have some excellent videos on Youtube or even articles that take a deep dive on topics.

For instance, SMM/Instagram, Performance Marketing and eCommerce. Three things, I have really paid attention to, in order to grow and improve my own skillset, for the past year. I created three notebooks and uploaded all the ebooks, videos, articles I could get my hands on.

Now I have personal coaches for these topics. Whom I refer to from time to time. Even the most generic questions are answered in excruciating detail.

We all know, bookmarking/saving articles and videos seldom works. There is no way we can recall that one video we saved when we need it.

Courses

As someone with ADHD, I cannot sit through hours of fluff when the course provider puts up 40 videos of him randomly talking about stuff just to justify their abysmal price. I have successfully used this to create a Notebook that can extract key information that I can refer to on an as needed basis.

Competitor Research

All I did was plug in the SpaceX Store URL and this is what it came up with. This is a pretty cool overview of their Branding and Product Strategy.

nb1.png

It is also able to give you a list of products they sell and more.

You can add upto 50 of your competitors in one go! And then use this to gather information on them all. Average pricing, what they are doing in common, strategy, what products on the homepage etc. etc.

Podcasts

You can use it to generate cute podcast videos about websites, current affairs and more. You already saw an example above. You can even customise them to your liking. I'll talk about it below.

How to use it?

1. Simply headover to https://notebooklm.google.com/ and click on "Create"

2. Gather a list of your "sources"

nb3.png

You can add link to Google Docs or Slides

You can add Website URLs (Homepage, or link to specific news stories - trending ones for example)

You can add your own text blocks.

You can upload your own audio files.

You can upload PDFs

3. Once you are done uploading, you are ready to go.

You can begin asking questions. You can generate a podcast. You can ask it to write articles for you.

Think of it like your extra brain. Someone you can refer to for very specific information on a ton of topics, each segregated carefully.

Extremely useful.

(Method) Make Trending Podcasts in Minutes

Let's talk about what can be done with Podcasts.

Step 1 - Let's go to Google Trends - https://trends.google.com/

Step 2 - Let's go to the "Trending Now" tab

From here, I saw that the Australian PM's name was trending for some reason - Anthony Albanese

A little further exploration tells me that it's because he has proposed banning social media for kids under 16. Big deal world over.

Step 3 - So now that we know, I quickly went to Google News and grabbed 10 odd news articles and a few Youtube videos talking about the topic and added them as sources to my Notebook

Step 4 - Now, let's click on "Notebook Guide" - a small info box rises up. Look at the top right for audio, and click customise. Here give it key points to talk about, mention something, name it, give it an intro etc.

nb4.png

Once you're happy. Click Generate.

Step 5 - Now you have the audio of your podcast. You can now go to something like veed.io (paid tool) to generate a full video, or use something like Canva or an SRT generator and your own editing to create a video.

Here I created this in 15 mins. Basically, used Veed.io, then cropped it and added a background in Canva. Would've happily subscribed, but Veed is being a bitch and not accepting my card.

Additionally, you can have even use third party AI tools to change voices and make it better. Add some background music and do whatever else you want.

Hope this is helpful to some of you.

Cheers

This is insanely useful. Thanks for the share, and I guess I have a podcast now...

I'll be your first subscriber. Or whatever else that podcast people have. Listener?

I think it's subscribers.
I rarely listen to podcasts, and even when I do, it's mostly to podcast by people I personally know, so I really don't really understand the jargon :-)

But beyond podcasts, the ability to educate an AI model on specific content without being very technical paves the way to AI content that is actually useful and possibly error free. You can probably add a few sentences here and there to give it some fresh perspective and you're done.

I have no idea how people do that.

My closest friend has a similar commute to work as me, just on the other side of town.

He always has podcasts lined up in the car and listens to them on the way to and back.

My attention deficieent ass can never comprehend it.

Just done one about the Mike Tyson vs Tosspot fight on 15th November.

Actually sounds a bit better than the other tutorial on here.

That's awesome.

If you're in that niche, here's a quick idea.

You can make entire discussions on one athlete. Make an entire series around profiles of players.

So let's say you create a notebook for each artist.

Add sources that talk about their age, earlier life, wikipedia page, fight details, news articles

Then in the customisation column enter

- Talk about their childhood and life outside of their career
- Talk about their family
- Talk about their training
- Talk about the biggest fight of their career
- Talk about their incomd
- Talk about their top competitors
- (Add more pointers you can think of)

Then generate the audio.

You now have individual profiles of all of the big players.

Create a nice video on Veed or Canva and upload.

"Mike Tyson - Life, Career, Family, Spouse, Income and More"

You can sit one day and be done with content for a month.

This thing can be done for

- Historic Political figures
- Celebrities
- Current Political Figures
- Major Historic Events
- Global Festivals
- Cultural Phenomena
- Criminals
- True Crime Series
- Philanthropists
- Billionaires
- Companies
- Controversial Figures
- Pets (Breeds of Dogs and Cats)
- Animals
- Climate
- Study Concepts (One single concept per video)
- And so much more...

Good luck.

Yeah great idea. The only 'problem' is that the AI can still be kinda boring. Maybe it's because I've listened to a lot of these 2 bots talking to eachother for a while.

It'll be interesting to see (hear) what people think of it who have never heard of BHW and know very little about AI. See if they think it sounds like a real podcast/

This is known as the "Curse of Knowledge" - a cognitive bias where a person who is very familiar with something (in this case, AI and AI generated voiceovers) has difficulty seeing it from the perspective of someone who isn't familiar with it.

This is why marketers often can't effectively judge their own work - they know the intended message, understand all the references and industry techniques, and can't "un-know" what they know to see it through fresh eyes like their target audience would.

As for the boring part, I'd use the customisation feature and even input comedic elements through other AI models or your own self (if you're funny enough).

At the moment I am working to automate this. Or at least semi automate it.

If not taking in full featured videos. I'd love to use something like Opus and make tiny shorts out of the discussion element. This could them be fed to topical channels or Instagram accounts as reels/shorts.

I think combining it with like Invideo can make you videos for YouTube and Tik Tok for which you can monitize them.
