telegram asking for email when signing up

Anyone else have this happen? when signing up, using an ip with a geo that matches the country, it asks for an email..... for now im making gmails so i can make telegrams, however curious if anyone else is having this issue? Or any idea why it happens?

This usually happens when you're using a VPN, happened to me quite a few times.
