Do you know about the insider spy service? it will help you not only find out which keywords your competitor uses, but also the full settings of his advertising

You don't need any insider spy service. In most cases the keyword planner is more than good enough to conduct a basic research. For the rare cases where it isn't you can use SEMRush.

Back in the day, these spy tools were somewhat important, but not anymore. Exact match keywords are not used so often, and even when they are, they don't perform as well as phrase and even broad.

Assuming you're using conversion tracking for up and down the funnel events, using less restrictive match types can work really well and prepare your account for scaling up later on.

I've been doing it for long enough to be able to recognize bullshit when I see it.
I tested a couple of these (even here on BHW, if I'm not mistaken) and every single time they got it wrong.

How do I know that? I ordered a test service for accounts I manage myself.

You can't give people advice and say that insider services are 'bullshit' just because you were deceived once

I can, because it's the type of service that is the easiest to fake. No one orders it for a campaign they have access to, so there's no way to validate the data.
