internet archive hacked! (archive.org)

Thats something we're going to see a lot more of

> News of the breach began circulating Wednesday afternoon after visitors to archive.org began seeing a JavaScript alert created by the hacker, stating that the Internet Archive was breached.

Well that was considerate of him.

I feel the same as this comment: "Hacking the archive has the same feel as shooting a medic on the battlefield .."

Why hack internet archive? don't you guys have better targets?

For real, that was the first thing I thought of.

Like, what's the point?

I guess someone wants all the expired articles for themselves! :D

Shh, I still use and scrape expired articles till this day.
I am glad everyone is running AI now and forgetting about expired articles which leaves this area less crowded.
Anyways, it is hard and time-consuming to filter out good quality expired articles, though...

Google will take the highest hit from this. That's what they get for using a third party archive service.

you can train ai models + ai workflows to do just that :)
The problem is you need to understand that which in gpt-3 times wasn't easy

Today you can do that in many cloud based things. Aws, gc, sagemaker, vertex google, azure.

Maybe I'll code a chat bot like Kira of @lucky.sparks

Sounds easy.

Oh and are they distrbuting malware too. That would explain alot - my av blocked a connection to an archive url the other day. If was a bit baffling even for a false positive.
