Hi, I have build a very small phone app with a single use as a small every day convenience. It's the type of app that runs in the background, so putting ads on it won't generate a lot of money, as people open the app once, configurate it, then close it, and only open it once the notification pops up (which is once; When they set it). I can't think of a way to give more premium features as it's literally solving only one, small problem and once that's solved, there are no extras. So I can't offer a premium service tier?
Maybe I can limit the use per day or week, which MIGHT inconvenience someone enough to pay a small one time fee, but not sure.

I try to not create my own competition here, so I avoid giving to explicit hints on what it does, sorry for that. But how do I make money from a free to download app without ads (although I am going to put ads, just don't think that when they look at it once, it'll generate much) or any way to make it more premium (to sell different tiers)?

I don't know what your app is exactly about, but your best bet is definitely creating more premium features like you said. Different tiers, weekly, monthly and annuals plans to have access to more resources and free-ads experience

Just a thought: make people register for an account to use the app. add a checkbox to agree to ToS to share their email with your "partners".

Okay, I don't see how i can do it for this app in specific, so I probably just shouldn't publish then. Nevermind. I'll just use it on my own then.

Putting ads can generate lot of money if there are too many users. Your focus should be getting too many organic installs each day.

I feel like ads are only useful, if it's the type of ads people look at frequently or for prolonged amounts of time

If your app is free and disposable (near the one session for user) you can put a lot of ads and this will produce nice income. I worked this way.
Or there are other approaches as in-app purchases, subscriptions, freemium models

Thanks. I have put it up for 5 dollars but only made 13 sales so far. Hm.

Hm, maybe affiliate links. But have to research if I can find something for the niche.
