Do you find Wikipedia links useful?

People talk a lot about Wikipedia links and how useful those links are but do they really help in SEO?
Has anybody experienced any ranking improvement after acquiring Wkipedia links?

Try to find heavily traffic Wikipedia pages for your niche and add your link that pages, this way Wikipedia link work goods.

I use them as part of my overall SEO campaign and the campaign goes good. But, on their own what impact they have on rankings I'm not sure about that.

Not sure about rankings but I have gotten traffic from wikipedia which converted into sales. It definitely helps if placed right.

Wikipedia contextual links are very good for any website links foundation. Even more, it can bring quality traffic and more backlinks. The project mentioned here bought me some nice traffic. After a while I sold the site (but the link is still there). So, on short: Yes! I would highly consider Wikipedia into my long-term next strategy.

Yes Wikipedia links are good for backlinking. You can rank well with them. But the best is the traffic you get through them.

Now, like you, I see no point and don't bother... that's why I asked.
Bought one, made one myself, got some naturally... and I didn't see seo benefits from those wikipedia links.

So I wonder why some people are eager to pay $50 or more per wikipedia link.

They're no follow links, I don't think they pass any juice especially enough to rank a website. I've had one on a specific site but that page never ranked, till I sent some other links much much later.

I think they're best used for show-offs, nothing more.

Yeah, they really do help with SEO if you are linked to as a source.

But with that said, it's very hard to get linked to on Wikipedia and have the links stay.

As you probably already know, Wikipedia editors have been accused of corruption more than a few times, and it's really hard to find somebody who can hook you up with links that will stay over the long haul.

A lot of the times, links are taken off because of the frequent editing a page gets.

You're basically confronted with two factors: 1) how often a page gets updated, and 2) how touchy the editors are.
