google ads improve ranking i guess !!

I've been working on my website for 5 years, publishing handwritten content every day and never used google ads.
There was a time when I ranked first for all the keywords, but that's not the case anymore. So, what have I observed over these 5 years? I've noticed that many new websites with copied or superficial content have run ads for certain keywords for a while, and afterward, their positions remained high.
I'm certain of this because I've been monitoring all the websites for these keywords for 5 years. I want to know if anyone can confirm this theory?

It should improve, but once ads campaign is done - rankings will drop as well.

I haven't noticed it.
What I did notice is that companies tend to start marketing in multiple channels at the same time, so they're hiring an agency for their SEO and PPC and starting them together, forcing a correlation between the two channels.

I can share a similar observation. Several years ago, we launched an e-commerce site in a specific low-competition niche. We ran Google Ads, FB Ads and at the same time also worked on SEO. For SEO, it was mostly manual articles on the site. The links to the articles were shared on the social media platforms.

Over a period of few weeks, the site started to rank well (top 3 results) on Google for several keywords (most of which were used in GAds as well). Gradually, we disabled the top-ranking keywords in GAds. Our site continued to rank after disabling the Ads.

Now, it's debatable if GAds played any role with ranking our site. But GAnalytics did show a low bounce rate and healthy visit/session duration for the keywords we were ranking on top.

it's not primarely about the ads, it's about the users, geniune traffic with decent UX signals,
google is tracking chrome visits and using the time on-page, bounce rate, pages/visit, etc... as a ranking factor,

you can have the same results if you're running ads in different platform(s) and having a good share of chrome users visiting your website(s),
if you have a geniune website(s)/page(s) with decent content that hook the users, you'll start ranking, otherwise it could have a negative effect

Depends on the ads. Also if the ads stop you or they will drop in ranking, if you/they rely too much on ads.
