Does YT remove a verification from a channel if it drops below 100k subs later?

Yes. There have possibility to remove the verification tick mark if you do not stay more than 100k sub+.

YouTube doesn't care once you pass the subscriber threshold.
They're not going to remove your verification.
What they are more focused on is what kind of videos you post.
If you post AI videos where you have Morgan Freeman or Donald Trump saying shit that you know they wouldn't say in real life, that's gonna be a problem.
Then I see this being the main issue with AI on YouTube because I've been seeing a lot of well-known and well-respected celebrities in certain niches being "forced" to say shit that is very speculative and appeals to niche audiences.
The problem with this is they probably wouldn't say that stuff because it's too controversial or they're making unfounded claims.
Do you see the problem here?
Don't focus on the number of subscriptions.
Focus more on the content that you are producing and make sure that you remain in YouTube's good graces in terms of their terms of service.
They're not going to remove your verification.

A channel, as of the current policies, will NEVER lose its verification if it drops in subscriber count. I heavily doubt they will ever change it.
These guys don't know what they're talking about. Clearly they don't even have a verified channel nor understand what's up. Damn bots.
As an extreme example, I have a verified channel with less than a thousand subscribers (was verified unconventionally, by YouTube, with a special request). That should speak for itself. There are brands that have just a few thousand in many cases.
Here's a buddy that has 600 subscribers on his brand and is verified, legitimately, through a tedious process of reaching YouTube. Pretty much what I did for myself and my own brands as well. https://www.youtube.com/c/LoveWatts
Here's a random YouTube channel representing a Greek B2C marketplace https://www.youtube.com/@skroutzgr — less than 10K subscribers here. Same story.
They do verify channels with less than 100K regardless in special circumstances, so would they have to remove those checks? No. These are outliers, but not outliers of "escaping" with the mark.
The only reason they'd remove the checkmark is if you:
a) change your channel name (not handle) and if you have less than 100k at the time of changing it, it'll be substantially harder to re-apply, by the normal portal impossible
b) abuse your checkmark for comment spam/wreck ToS like any other channel, which both will simply terminate your channel, ultimately mark & channel whooshed away
TL;DR: No, your mark will stay there.
