No, you do not need a US SIM to go viral in TikTok. TikTok is available globally, and you can use it from any simcard or even over just Wi-Fi.
However, you may see the region-specific content on TikTok when you sign in from a specific geo (SIM), so to go viral for a specific geo, you can set your location to that geo or use WiFi instead of SIM.
