I think it's hard for a new domain to have a high exposure. So I'm looking to buy an expired domain.

Can you advise me on the important points when purchasing a domain?
For example, domain age...

Also, whether the domain was penalized by Google, etc

Please give me some advice on which domain I should buy.

Avoid domain that's been used for porn or any other sketchy niches like casino.
Avoid domains that have been used for too many different unrelated niches.
Avoid domains that's been used to run/host PBNs.
Preferably buy domain that is still indexed. Your chances are higher with such.

You can use the wayback machine to see what kinds of sites the domain was used for in the past.

The age of the domain is not very important, what's more important is the quality of backlinks that it has. If a domain meets every other requirements but has very little quality links. Then such domain is just as good as a brand new domain if not worse.

Instead of doing the domain research yourself, I'll recommend you buy from established sellers. They would have done all the quality filtering for you, so what you need to do is ensure the domain meets your niche/site requirements. The marketplace has some quality expired domain sellers.

You can post your requirement in HAF or WTB section, where sellers will contact you with the doamins

Even with a new domain, you can achieve top search rankings with solid SEO practices. Effective SEO can significantly boost your visibility and help your new domain rank highly in search results. Consistent, quality SEO efforts are key to achieving strong rankings, regardless of the domain's age.

For the most part, it's better to purchase one prior to expiry

Don't waste your time looking for a dropped domain on your own - there are plenty of domain sellers in the forum that have already done the job for you.
Look at their domain inventory and look for assessments from them - it would be easier and more productive for your business.

Very insightful. Other than WBM what else can be used for screening?

Just a get a good name, short and easy to recognize.

Dont worry about the age or metrics now. Because its hard to find a good name, metrics can be built later.

For the purpose of knowing the website's niche and content history, way back machine is good enough. It's what I use. I don't use anything else.

And it's free.

new domains works better then expired domains said by SEO gurus after new google update fr

Hello, butk2024, The most important thing to do when buying an expired domain name is to check its history to see if it has any bad behavior. It is also important to focus on whether he has been penalized by search engines, and domains that have been penalized should be purchased with caution. In addition to the initial registration fee, you should also consider the subsequent costs, different domain name charges different rates. Also pay extra attention to whether the domain name infringes on others' copyrights or trademarks.
