I'm pretty happy with the August Core Update so far

One of my blogs got hit by the September 2023 update, going from 400+ search visits a day to less than a 100 in a span of a couple of months. This, together with the fact that it didn't really make a lot of money at its peak made me stop working on it and move to other projects.

That said, it seems like the last Google update somehow revived it. I haven't posted there in almost a year, so I guess it's time to go back to it.

I wrote most of the content by myself, and edited the rest by myself. I can honestly say that it's very good and well researched, and a healthy portion of it is exclusive to my site, with information no one else have ever covered.
I bought a very few links (no more then 6/7), and the site is up since 2021.

Do you have sites that revived since the last update? What do they have in common? We might be able to figure something out together.

I had a page doing pretty good as well, but I sort of became negligient and didn't even see the hosting expiring, and lost the progress... Can I recover it?

In the past happened to me with a domain expired, I renew the domain and after a week I got traffic back

Seems very similar to how it performed a year ago. As if they just undid the updates.

I'm seeing the same thing on one of my older sites; got totally humped last September and it's jumping up in the serps this month. More importantly, it's bringing in affiliate sales again

I’m managing a website for a client who offers physiotherapy services, and we’ve experienced some significant fluctuations in traffic following Google’s updates. After the September 2023 update, we saw a sharp decline in visits. Initially, I thought this might have been due to our decision to stop publishing blog articles in May 2023. By January 2024, we resumed publishing, which led to a slow recovery in traffic.

Interestingly, throughout this period, the site’s “money keywords”—those directly tied to the client’s services—remained stable. The drop primarily affected informational articles, which led the client to halt content production once again. After this, the site had another gradual decrease in overall traffic.

Then, out of nowhere, the August 2024 update brought a substantial surge in traffic, even though we hadn’t done anything new content-wise. During this time, I focused on link building, securing about ten high-quality backlinks from relevant, authoritative sites in the health and wellness niche.

Despite these efforts, I’m struggling to understand what exactly Google penalized in September 2023 and what it rewarded in August 2024. Was it the lack of fresh content, the type of content, or perhaps something related to the site’s backlink profile?

Has anyone else faced a similar situation? Any insights on what Google might have been targeting with these updates would be greatly appreciated.
