What will it be like when SEO is really dead?

How do you imagine the future when there is no SEO? Searches with flat answers, no need to consult websites, just ask and get a direct answer like GPT Chat? Will small businesses have to pay to be recommended and appear in the responses?

I know you don't have a crystal ball, just tell me how your imagination conceives this.

The whole civilization will be rebuilt. All civilizations will change and either unite or collapse, but in the reality nothing really fails and only new things emerge no matter what happens.

It might be that we will witness emergence of beings from different dimensions due to our collective efforts with building transformers architecture and intelligence. For now we have a digital version of it. However, soon it might become a popular idea to create non-symbolic, highly understanding entities that will speak to us without language and they'll show us something we could never see ourselves via our senses and daily experiences.

We might be collectively, unconsciously building a medium of connection with those beings and they might be already there in the reality, but we need the key to open the communication tunnel.

Personally, if that's what the future of the internet will be like, I won't be using it.

I doubt, at least for now, that's how the internet will end up. Google for example has just been convicted in participating in monopolistic practices. I believe/hope a lot of big tech companies will be broken apart if we ever get to that situation.

If the Internet is just AI then it won't exist as you currently know it. Think more like old cartoons like Jetsons or something. People use the AI but aren't online or on phones they're IRL again and just using robots/AI.

Seems too many people like the Internet and the attention or entertainment they can get from it from the safety of their home so I don't forsee it going that way but who knows.

SEO will be always there it will just change forms. Also, GPT will not fix your roof, fight for you in court or remove tumors from your body. For these if search engines go extinct by any chance, directories will rise again with user reviews of course.

In this scenario, if someone were to ask “Who are the best neurosurgeons in Chicago?”, the AI could draw up a list of 10 names, all (or at least some) of whom have paid to be there and be mentioned and promoted by the AI's answers.

And if people want reviews and to see about previous customer experiences, they will go to social networks (like YT, IG, TT, etc) to watch video reviews, because written reviews are easily faked (video testimonials can also be faked, but people trust them more). This is already happening.

That's what I said, AI doesn't magically generate real life answers like this. It needs to see who is popular in which city and what people are saying about them. This is what SEO is about, to manipulate the results the algorithm shows.

The problem is Google is created by all of us and so if we change our ways of thinking, Google will change with it as well.

Remove money from the equation for example. Think of pure energy exchanges. That'd be different type of stuff.

Google CEOs aren't some "bosses of the reality". They're limited by the same paradigm as we all are.

Understand "big tech" is created by "big people" and "big thinkers".
You can observe certain characteristics in all rich people and so understand how those extremely big companies are created.
They simply employ "all people in the world". Which is hive-mind type of company. This isn't ownership-based company where self-centered being says "I WANT THIS, I GET THIS".

Google is notorious for killing perfectly good products that worked for it’s customer base just because it didn’t personally suit them for any number of reasons. I think this is one notable example of a company that plays by it’s own rules rather than democracy in action.
