Is one GSC sitemap submission enough?

When I go into the site map tab and check the last time I read it, most of them are a month old.
In this case, would it be better to resubmit the same site map?

And how about resubmitting the site map periodically?

you don't need to submit it periodically if google finds your content as you publish it. You need to re-submit if / when there are errors with fetching the URLs in the sitemap, or if you've changed the structure of your site, or the structure of some URLs (like 301-ing stuff to other stuff for example)

But if you're really paranoid and think that google simply doesn't love your site enough to visit it frequently you can re-submit every now and then

But it's not needed as good sitemap / SEO plugins always ping google when changes are detected on your site....

If your site is not being updated too often, what benefit you get from your sitemap being checked every day?

Logically, if a crawler gets to your page before it was "caught" by checking your sitemap, it would probably cause Google to check to see what else they might have missed.

You have to resubmit your sitemap to GSC only when you are facing some error in your indexing.

You only need to submit your sitemap once in GSC.

Google will automatically crawl it periodically, so, there is no need or reason to keep resubmitting it, in your case.

Once you have made some big changes to your site or added a lot of new content, resubmitting the sitemap can help discover those updates faster.

Generally though, if you are not seeing any issue with indexing, it's fine to leave it as it is.

Just to mention, if you're using WP the sitemap should be pinged each time you publish/edit a page/post,

The problem is that the Google site map have “cache”. If you remove your site map and add again, Google “cache” your old site so and restore it.
You need to change sitemap url to get the sitemap fetched as new.
Try this. Remove sitemap and add again it with the same url. Google will restore the cache that you removed with the last fetch you have before remove.

Yes, but (I’m not sure) if you rename your sitemap and you created it with plugin (Google xml sitemap, yoast, rank math etc.) I think will not be updated automatically by plugin. I think this method works only for manual sitemap created manually.

Just to confirm, when you say "last time I read it"... Are you referring to the date in GSC / the last date Google crawled it?

If so, and there's no errors in that crawl, and no big changes to the structure of your website, then you're fine.

Bing's IndexNow will trigger crawls via pings. Google will largely ignore your sitemap for ages, and there's no point resubmitting if you haven't updated the site.

Focus on the content and links. Let the sitemap and crawler do their thing.

I would recommend to focus on the new things to consider according this new vide from Google central about indexing too

, basically you got discovered but not indexed due to the lack of quality in your articles , so then google will plan to index your content as low priority
