YouTube shorts views suppresion

I had success with YT shorts in the past having shorts with millions of views. I tried to replicate this with other channels, at this point I've uploaded hundreds of videos and the most views that I got was 90k

Now the most important part, I have plenty of videos with 86-87% view rate and in some cases 160-170% retention. By the time it hits 10k views I get 20-30 comments. Comparing these metrics with my first "successfull" shorts channel and with other people channels that had success with shorts these metrics are superior.

If you know anything about shorts, these metrics are insane and many of these shorts should have went viral and gained millions if not tens of millions of views. But they didn't.

The way YouTube works is very simple, YT wants people to watch as many videos as possible and stay on YT for as long as possible so they could show more ads and YT could earn more ad revenue from the advertisers.

YouTube wants people to choose to watch the video, watch it for as long as possible, engage with it and watch more videos. MrBeast talked about, it noticed this to be true with my "successfull" channels.

My shorts check all the boxes, the metrics are absolutely phenomenal. The fact that 20s long video with 87% view rate and 140% retention doesn't get pushed past 13k views is criminal.

In comparison, on my "successful" channel, my short with 10 millions of views and counting has 81% view rate and 108% retention on 25s video.

The only possible conclusion that I can come to is that my other shorts channels are being artificially suppresed. Why?

Your other shorts channels may be facing algorithmic suppression due to factors like content niche, channel history or inconsistent upload patterns you can experiment with different content strategies or appeal to YT for potential review

It depends mostly on the popularity of what you are uploading, also your 1st channel may have a strong brand. Also, your "phenomenal" statistics may look unnatural to Google.

is the newer channel aged, and does it have any kind of subscriber base? It's pretty common for videos to get stuck around 10k views, as that seems to be a critical threshold for shorts. I've had videos with excellent view rates and retention, yet they still get stuck at 10k. My best guess for why this happens is due to the channel's history and existing base. Eventually, as the channel grows, this issue will become less common.

Both. Regarding channel's history and existing base.. there's might be some true to that, but that doesn't explain YouTube channels that were created 2 months ago and have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and tens of millions of views.. and I've seen quite a few channels like that.

As I've mentioned in the original post my metrics are absolutely phenomenal. There's massive difference between 76-77% view rate that he gets and my 86-87% view rate... yet my shorts are going nowhere.

My shorts are 12-25s long and in some cases my retention % is double compared to his... yet my shorts are going nowhere.

People that make similar content to mine and have 2-10 million of subscribers.. their shorts are 15-30s long, so I really doubt that the length of my shorts is the issue.

The math doesn't math. Any input is welcome.

What is your niche? I have a 260k shorts channel. The worse my videos do is 10k, but some go viral getting millions. And like you, some of my highest retention videos never go "viral". DM your channel I will take a look.

I have 4 channels, they all have different niches. How long are your shorts on average?

maybe those channels post the same content as other channels, even if is different they saturate this niche just putting their face and copying even the script notice a lot of similar shorts with the same patern.

This one got stuck at 11k views... clearly almost 90% view rate is not enough to go viral.

All 4 channels in 3 different niches are experiencing the same. Hundreds of shorts uploaded... still not a single short went viral.

As I was saying the math doesn't math.

In the video the guy saw result for the 15M video after 66 days so maybe you need to wait a little bit more ?

This is one of many videos that are stuck at 10k views.

I've made a several observations.

1) "Average view duration" is more important than "Avererage percentage viewed".
i.e. a 21 second long short with 99% "Avererage percentage viewed" would beat a 9 second short with 200% "Avererage percentage viewed". I have a countless amount of examples showing this to be true.
2) Any short with "Average view duration" less than 20 seconds has pretty much 0% chance of going viral. It's very unlikely to happen.
3) I've noticed that having certain visual elements in the short makes it get viral or at least hit the 10k views ceiling. You can repurpose that short, make some minor changes, upload it on the same channel and it will get a substancial amount of views. And this could happen many times, that's why you see some shorts channels spamming different variantions of the same short and gettting good results.

Did anyone have similar experiences or have data proving my observations to be incorrect?
