Is it worth getting a domain with a hyphen if other options are not available? I heard that exact match for the domain can do a lot for seo, but does a domain with a hyphen count as an exact match?

example:
Instead of dogtraining.com I create dog-training.com

sure go ahead, its quite impossible to do mini sites with nice keywords so mostly i put - in between and sometimes just add keyworreview.com or keywordonline.com or keywordfacts.com

Now the question I always wondered was is it easier to rank with a dashes in URL or by adding an additional word at the end of the keyword? Does anyone know how much stronger will it be to not include any other words in the domain instead of just having dashes?

Yes you can do that. One dash won't have an impact. However multiple - will.

You would actually be better to add a letter or word at the end like you suggested rather than using a -

keywordblog.com for example

HI,
IMO, one dash is enough and wouldnt harm the keyword or SEO. Dashes are not considered by search engine crawlers, however, usage in abundance is not good.
