Protect your IG account at all cost

I am posting this because today i found out that my IG was so close to be taken away from me. I only had a password, email, and phone number. without any 2fa. But for some reason. The "hacker" changed my password today, but did not log me out. Removed my Email & Phone number.
Thankfully he did not log me out. Otherwise bye bye account.

So far that i know. Adding phone, email, backup codes, 2FA, and obviously changing your password are the best ways to protect your instagram account from being hacked.

What else is needed to do or add in order to protect your instagram account? How was he able to bypass 2FA?

Once they get access to the account they change everything so fast, you really have luck and changed everything back, I saw something about 2fa that sms verification is not so secure and is better either email code verification or use an authenticator don't know if is true.

Just be careful with 2FA because it is hard to recover if you lose your key. So, better save you keys as well.

I generated new keys, and saved them up!

but how can they even retain your instagram password when you need an API from instagram to log in and integrate it on your app....

Those indians are talented, they will put something in the script to capture your data before it calls the Instagram API.

Usually what they do, is message the friends of these stolen accounts to convince them to click links to steal their friends accounts as well and because their friends will trust them, they will fall for it and get their account stolen as well. Also, they will convince the followers of these accounts to do some investment which is usually some scam, but because they think it's their friends sending these messages, they will also fall for the scam.

you can always get your account back if you have the OG email address, doesnt matter if they change anything or even have 2FA, instagram always keeps the OG email address assigned to it no matter what

Maybe your password was easy to generate and guess. Which country are you from? All those things you mentioned are the best ways to protect yourself.
