Making this discussion so we can keep track of the Google August Core Update and make sense of the effects.

Here is what Google has to say:
Today, we launched our August 2024 core update to Google Search. This update is designed to continue our work to improve the quality of our search results by showing more content that people find genuinely useful and less content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Search.

This latest update takes into account the feedback we've heard from some creators and others over the past few months. As always, we aim to connect people with a range of high quality sites, including small or independent sites that are creating useful, original content, when relevant to users' searches. This is an area we'll continue to address in future updates. This update also aims to better capture improvements that sites may have made, so we can continue to show the best of the web.

We've also updated our help page about core updates, which includes more in-depth guidance for those who may see changes after an update.

Looks like another huge Helpful Content core update. Let's hope it's not as much of a s#@t show as the March update.

So far we are one day in.

I'm seeing massive volatility, but have not had any sites removed from serps... yet. I have also not seen any site recoveries from sites wiped out in the March update.

Let's hope Google keep their word and we see some site recoveries in this update. But don't hold your breath.

Please post below any research, tests and results of this update below.

How are you effected?

No difference at this point... Our sites are all quite dead. Even my SEO friends said the same. I've not seen any legitimate whitehat sites (not referring to big sites, but small publishers like us) who benefited from it.

No one has also recovered from September 2023 Helpful Content Update.

The only people who are winning are real blackhatters who bought expensive priced domains with huge PBN networks. Or just parasite SEO spam (like Medium, Linkedin, Reddit, sponsored content).

So it honestly doesn't make any difference at this point. Some of us feel this could be the "Coup De Grace" or the final nail to the coffin.

Lastly, never forget... Whenever a huge update like this comes, Google will be pushing something at the back. Like some are reporting that "AI Overviews" are appearing on incognito mode, and rolling out to more countries now. We're also seeing more 'sponsored ads' at the top.

parasite seo is biggest spam even google not doing anything about it.
Agreed.

What's sad is Google doesn't know how to deal with all the parasite SEOs, redirect spam sites, and AI-generated content.

So what do they do? They emphasize on domain's metrics, and big sites (like Forbes and sponsored content) keep winning in each update. The problem with this approach is it also makes parasite SEO worse since anyone can upload PDF spam, post a spammy article, or have a paid content posted there to ride their authority. And that's what we've been seeing since 2020 and it keeps getting worse with each update...

It is honestly hopeless at this point. Googlers refuse to listen to public feedback and take immediate actions... Their delay just worsened everything and now Search is nothing but garbage.

And if you notice, the search results layout is so distracting now. You have to scroll so much just to get to the first organic site. Google is doing whatever they can to get users to click on their ads.
