I've got something I used to do manually in the past but hoping to automate it.

I want to search by a term or tag and like peoples posts, or go through a person's followers and like the followers posts. I'm not sure what this would be called and I'm getting mixed information on wether or not this is bannable.

I thing likegrowers used to do this but seems it's closed now.

Trying to find if there's a name for this and if it will get me banned.

I think you're looking for Instagram growth tools that automatically follow, unfollow, like, etc. You can try socifly, combin, or autogramer.
Otherwise, check the social media section some sellers on BHW offer this.

I don't want the follow and unfollow. I just want a stand alone like feature. I was hoping to not have to buy a whole package to get one thing.

Yeah, that'd work. I posted this like a month ago so i moved to other methods but I'd still use this is you know what it's called.

Or this one might be a bit stranger,
follow/interact people based on commenting on a post.
Example:
- Acc1 makes a post
- people comment/like
- Acc2 follows all the people that commented.

Yeah, that's basically what I wanted it to do.

I kinda dropped my Twitter accounts when things got weird but IG yes. I have been looking at Twitter for this checkmark engagement pay, but not sure it's worth the trouble.

yeah this is doable, various services let you choose targeting from followers, following, likers, commenters, etc.
