I've never owned a motorcycle, but I did look into them briefly when I considered buying one back around 2017.
The brands I was considering were as follows:
As for motor displacement, I was interested in something around the 600-800 range. Something that a new rider could grow into and could be used on the freeway, especially the freeways here in California where the speed limit is treated like a suggestion.
