Hi, I usually don't face myself in this kind of situations because i try to learn as much as possible how to avoid getting caught by google. I've never experienced something like this before so i'd like to know if this is penalty or it's just a dance.
The strange thing is:
1. Right after update was "done" according to G i had huge spike in traffic and next day boom all the way down.
2. When you see google search console looks like i've been hit but when you look semrush everything looks normal and natural. WTF

Id like to note: when i search my every brand name variation site is still here on top.

Why do you think this is a penalty? It looks like a standard traffic spike. How have your rankings changed?

What do you use to review your traffic sources? Where was the new large amount of traffic coming from?

1.Well site is 8-9 months old and i've built some backlinks before but nothing spectacular. Last month i've speed the things up a little bit since i think the site is little older and i can scale. (i've done that before successfully).
2. Most of those impressions (spike) you see it's from 3-4 keywords...and suddenly my rankings for those keywords disappear. One of those keywords is my main keyword.
3. I think it's a penalty because this happened right after the update was done, so that's why im asking.
4. Other keywords are down too but not that down so i can raise an alarm.

If you ignore the spike you seem in a similar position to where you was, business as usual.

I think it's normal
If you had been penalized, your chart would be much worse

Thanks brothers...but i can't ignore the spike because it was right in the middle of update roll-out. I think i should continue to work on the site.

if it was a penalty, your website will be out of the SERPs for almost all of the keywords,
it's not the case, you're still ranking but the positions dropped, you simply need more authority,
that's a very common scenario with new websites nowadays, you're getting a free boost initially then sandboxed

You experienced a momentary uptick and went back to where you were before the short boost. Unless your positions changed by much, this doesn't like a penalty at all. You didn't even go down to zero.

I would recommend you investigate further on the pages and keywords that resulted in the boost in traffic, study both the SERP result page before the boost, during the boost and after the boost. You should be able to do that with SEMrush, check which websites came in and left the result page. Compare whatever report you get with your website's.

This isn't a panalty everything seems normal, what happens sometime is keywords shuffles in the searches but comes to normal after few days. No fall in traffic everything seems fine to me.

This kind of spikes are normal. When Google update favours for your site this kind of boost will happen.

Sometimes it happens in between the update or after the update but its common i don't consider this as a penalty

It is normal. On penalty your traffic usually drops to zero.

May I ask what happened to your website a year ago?

If you’re still ranking for your brand variations, it’s likely not a manual or hard penalty. SEMrush often lags behind or smooths out the fluctuations GSC shows in real-time, so the dip might not show clearly there yet.

google removed/paused AIO for many queries in past week, starting of its core update on June 28-29-30 onward. This must have caused more clicks and impressions for a while.
