Not liking Ai

Same here
Getting bored of chatgpt itself, used it for everything I needed. I am looking forward to Sora. Any release dates yet?
What are you guys using Ai everyday for? I think its lame, if OpenAi adds GPTS to the store for subscription members but we still need to pay premium services for the third party GPTS. Basically the GPTS are not free for subscription members. You use it once like a video GPT and 5 seconds max, after you have to pay the Premium version of this GPT to get longer time. Might as well just go on their website and avoid OpenAi as middle. I would think the GPT Plus members use all GPTS with their full access, not one try demo runs per GPT made by third parties who want to upsell.

What a very stupid thing to say about Sora LOL, not scammers only. People with low budget for video production would help millions of people

Coming from the person never using sora only from the hype.

I think the AI hype has already ended. Ilya Sutskever is also trying to cash out. The models have never been more than machine machine learning combine with a giant amount of data. But of course this sounded boring. I would like to get a tool that could make apple and android apps, but don't we already have that in form of premade bases by that you can simply buy? Like, how could we really benefit form such tool? The main use case I could see with it is possible faster development, what do you think?

There's so much wrong with this thread.

It just sums up the sentiment of a failed society and a failed generation.

"I think its lame"

I don't even know what to say to something like that.

It's like a entitlement has gone into hyper-mode.

Humans can be content/happy just sitting on a chair reading a book.

We have AI here and you guys are bored with it.

What?!

You can literally go and learn anything in the world with the help of the most advanced current models.

You can have a back and forth conversation, testing your understanding and asking them to go into more detail on certain things or explain a certain way.

I was having a conversation with a business associate who was telling me they built their own internal model that did the job of a specialist consultant. It generated 70 pages of internal company docs that had 3 minor mistakes. The consultant was absolutely amazed by it and asked if they'd hired someone else to do this.

Yet you both claim that "AI hype" has ended and Ilya Sutskever is trying to cash out.

People like Ilya Sutskever are not motivated by "cash". They're motivated by their work. What do you think he wants to do? Sit around on yachts smoking cigars, or have access to high end hardware and teams of the best AI scientists on the planet to push the boundaries of digital intelligence?

All his decisions are motivated by the latter.

And Cyberpunko, why do you want a tool that can make apple and android apps?

Do you understand that if you have that, then everyone else has that, and suddenly there's no value in apps anymore?

The way things are going people are going to just be like giant dopamine seeking machines plugged into a virtual world giving them direct dopamine.

Try to slow down, take a step back and see the magnifiance of the world you live in. Feel appreciation. Choose a craft and the path of mastery, not this path of chasing hype and dopamine to the stage where you label "AI" as lame/boring. You may as well say "The universe is boring".

"And Cyberpunko, why do you want a tool that can make apple and android apps?" Where have i said that?

Why you give such response? It is an opinion that AI is hype you also twist what I wrote. AI not useless but hype difference in words. You also don't know Ilya Sutskever or you do?

Why are you upset by my response? I didn't say anything nasty to you.

I only asked you why you want a tool like that, and made you aware that it won't be useful or satisfying because everyone will have it.

I then went on to say that you should find appreciation in the world and follow a path of mastery.

Is that bad?

Are these damaging words to you personally, or are they words that if you considered, might lead to improvements in your life?

I know Ilya's mind enough that I can tell you what motivates him. I don't need to know him personally and have him verbally communicate this with me.

Right now, instead of waiting for some future where you have an even more advanced AI that you could use to create apps, then get bored of again after a few weeks, you could go on a path of mastery and learn to build apps yourself which would give you a real, lasting satisfication and years of the kind of pleasure you cannot experience unless you master a field. Or if not master, at least develop substantially in.

Outside of my regular work where I ask it to write boring programming functions for specific tasks - I'm using GPT as a personal tutor on how to work on retro car engines, perhaps if you are bored by it, you are simply using it wrong.

While I did find 3.5 and 4 annoying to talk to, then 4o feels way different, perhaps it just has more of a writing style I prefer set by default - short and on point.

have not corrected your implication not respectful also act like you better with generic wisdom also imply I said disastrous things not nice. I don't like you

The way things are going people are going to just be like giant dopamine seeking machines plugged into a virtual world giving them direct dopamine.
Dopamine in big amounts is toxic to our brains... or minds and psychology in general. But if you just use one neurotransmitter, it's a crazy rat level lifestyle. Everything suffers including your sleep, eating habits and you can't think straight and see more than 5 minutes into the future. Addiction centers are fully booked in my city.

I was living dopamine driven lifestyle for about a decade and that's characterized by "quick satisfaction", "quick results", "fast, strong hits". I attempted to open 3 companies and I took part in 10 projects all of which failed due to false assumptions that business is a quick journey for cash like a seasonal work.

What people can do is think about their kids, what they're going to have 20 years later and forget about competition because most competitors think like business is a rat race meanwhile it's about providing genuine value, so you get some energy in form of a currency like USD or Bitcoin. It's possible to even imagine the future 200 years later and that's where we should look instead of thinking of the next 20 minutes all the time.

I often use Germini rather than Chat GPT. It seems to understand my words better

Dopamine is a funny one actually. It's a bit misunderstood.

It's the "reward centre" of the brain, but, dopamine isn't released as the "final" reward on completion. This is why we don't get a mega dopamine rush after we finish a video game. We get a sense of achievement, but it's not dopamine.

Dopamine is actually the "Keep-going" part of the brain, and its job is to keep you going until the end by giving you mini-rewards along the way, precisely because in the real world you don't achieve your end goal that fast, so you need the mini-rewards.

The problem in the modern world is most apps and games are setup to take advantage of this. The infinite scroll for example tricks the brain into thinking we are GETTING somewhere important and each thing it sees on the infinite feed is like a reward for going along that path.

In reality, the infinite scroll is leading us nowhere. It's an infinite dopamine track.

What then happens is you train your brain to get too many dopamine rewards. This depletes your dopamine(although not for as long as you'd think, it comes back fast), but what it's doing is training you to expect dopamine quickly. I'm not sure the exact mechanism involved in this. The brain is quite complex, but you are training your brain to get dopamine too quickly and too easily, and the parts of your brain that strengthen when you practice persistence and patience are depleted.

When you cut out as many of these types of infinite dopamine tracks as possible and work on patience your dopamine pathways become useful again.

This is why many of the posts I've written about success focus on planning and breaking things down.

Ie, 10 year plan, 3-year, yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily, then your tasks for the day.

You are creating your own dopamine track as you tick off your progress, right down to the day's 3-5 important tasks. You get addicted to completing your own dopamine track, but your dopamine track is slower and requires more patience and more effort, which makes it much harder to go from scrolling on facebook to doing hard work in business or any other field.

And it doesn't work unless you plan. You can't just set a goal and try to work. You just won't get the dopamine.

There's a reason why World of Warcraft is so easy to play for 30 hours without sleeping. It's because it sets up a super easy dopamine track for you. You have your yearly/quarterly/monthly/weekly/daily/hourly/minutely in the form of all the achievements in the game. You hit a mob, and you get an animation/damage number(first dopamine hit), when you kill it you get another dopamine hit from the death animation + experience, when you kill a few, you'll get a reward in the form of better gear, when you kill more, you get a reward in terms of a level, which brings you more rewards in terms of skills/talents. Every few levels you get rewarded by being able to go to new zones, after enough levels and on and on and on.

You need to replicate this within your business and studying by trying to gamify your life as much as possible, but in business the rewards do come much slower, that's why it's best to NOT play games, use facebook/youtube, because these weaken the parts of the brain responsible for persistence/patience and train it to need stronger rewards.

You should get a good strong dopamine hit just from the act of completing a few rows of a spreadsheet without the need for the shiny animations/new dagger dropping :-)

Yeah. Once I got everything in those games I played, I just removed them from my computer. There is a ladder in League of Legends and many of those people had some side effects from playing that game, either problems with temper or excessive body fat due to overeating from stress. That game probably hooks a lot more people than World of Warcraft and gives those hits a lot quicker and they're a lot stronger. Learning about games felt like a weird thing to do. Getting skills in a game felt like it was something those games weren't designed for. So I just played by intuition.

Some people in games took the effort and analyzed stuff more deeply, but those were the top players usually. Not many people can manage to take something like computer games without emotions. Certainly not me. If you can, you can make money on playing games but even then, it's extremely competitive and people don't last long. Some more "smarter people" code bots and farm gold, but it's not a sustainable business and once you get banned for selling resources, all the people you sold them have accounts at risk.

So now if you plan 10 years forward, 20 years forward, you start to see "oh, so if I learn c++/math/Python/ML/new vocabulary/finances and plan my journey this and that way, I'll spend those hours and actually increase my potential". The message and feelings you get from that are very important. If you don't get positive feedback from learning, this is probably related to problems with reward system and that's to be taken care of as it can cause really bad side effects.

If you fix some parts of reward system by taking conscious, self aware action, learning new things doesn't feel like time wasted and you put it all into well written notes, plans, diagrams, spreadsheets. You get calmer, but more frequent stimuli that don't wreck your mind and emotions like a guillotine. Not only you become smarter, but you also grow as a person and learn to use rationality, wisdom instead of just emotions. Now emotions serve you as a guide and help you tell what's bad and what's good. It can be used as a moral compass instead of some damaging thing.

Yeah, if you were to become a developer, if you wanted to get pretty animations, you'd do front-end. Unfortunately, the money is in the data and front-end is just a little dagger dropping type of thing. Things can work without it. There are people who are obsessed with HTML and CSS, and I remember that it was like making those things that shine, but nobody well versed sees bigger value in it.

so much effort for so little return in games. That's why I quit. I play very occasionally, but the way my mind works now if I play more than 3-4 hours I just feel this intense urge to do something productive and feel like I'm wasting my time.

I prefer to study or work as that gives returns in the real world.

Well I can talk all I want, but Splish splash and Lucky Sparks are good at what they do, listen to them more then anyone else on BHW and of course maybe others havent met. But I highly highly respect Lucky Sparks, what a dude reading all his threads, I learned probably the most from reading Lucky Sparks compared to anyone else on BHW.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That being said, I read all the comments from Splish Splash. The lame aspect of Ai what I am trying to say is that. I have used it for all my ventures, scaled a few of my projects. Created my own GPTS for everyday use that I dont want to release to the store and I have learned more then I can possibly imagine being on Ai.

I do not say its lame because of the "dopamine". We all have different plans on how we want to use Ai, as you mentioned many other ways to use it. You have explained your scenario how else you could use Ai, well none of that falls under my category of what I am trying to explore Ai with, It is not because of "It just sums up the sentiment of a failed society and a failed generation."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Splish Splash Message to breakdown:
You can literally go and learn anything in the world with the help of the most advanced current models.
- True, but that is still not what I look forward to using it for, I think you are good at what you do, but at the same time keep using yourself as a case study, remember you are probably top 1% and you worked hard enough to be able to network across other domains to see how they are using Ai, but 90% of BHW users probably dont. When I see Ai, I don't see it a solution just for the world people can use to learn anything. I am proud of the fact it is helping alot of poor people get alot of good technology tools at a fraction that could make a different in their work, lives, etc. But. you have to be mentally unstable to forget about your everyday tasks/work and use Ai to learn "anything in the world" we need to learn stuff for our domain we are operating in, for majority of people trying to benefit Ai, if we have used all we could do within our domain, we will find it boring. Unless you have fuck off money, then you can sit on your computer all day and ask Ai why the sky is blue. AI isn't self initiating, it responds to our prompts, users will most likely ask questions related to their field or create GPTS in their field. To leverage AI, one must apply it within their domain to enhance their work and generate more income for the majority. Only a few people are entirely dedicated to innovation and research or have big corporations looking for internal Ai solutions. I've utilized AI to scale my ventures and am grateful for its benefits, but now I find it boring. I'm looking forward to advancements in physical AI, medical AI, video production AI, and app development AI.

You can have a back and forth conversation, testing your understanding and asking them to go into more detail on certain things or explain a certain way.
- Yes Agreed.

I was having a conversation with a business associate who was telling me they built their own internal model that did the job of a specialist consultant. It generated 70 pages of internal company docs that had 3 minor mistakes. The consultant was absolutely amazed by it and asked if they'd hired someone else to do this.
- Again irrelevant to the main focus on this thread, good to know, but this probably wont relate to 95% of the people on BHW.

-OPENAI was suppose to be NON PROFIT, and was suppose to allow the full exploration of Ai, safely and effectively. (Yes I know some companies go from non profit and then for profit) When you hire a NSA board director or not fight back the EU Ai ACT which stops Ai's full potential of what it can really do, its one thing to add regulations for the safety of Ai, totally on board for that. But its another thing to add regulations or trying to add regulations to control the flow information of Ai. Really makes us wonder, we are using all these tools but how far can we go to use this technology. As we wont know Illya accurate motive until later, I would predict it would have to be the fact he knows something and looking to solve it. People like him are not motivated by money. OpenAi would of been a "great" organization to be part of, but if he took another route, then he knows something about Ai that others dont.

And Cyberpunko, why do you want a tool that can make apple and android apps?
Do you understand that if you have that, then everyone else has that, and suddenly there's no value in apps anymore? - Well, I disagree with this view. While saturation is likely, there are many talented individuals with brilliant ideas for solving problems. However, they often realize that significant funding is required to bring their ideas to life. The aim of AI is to remove these barriers and foster creativity across various domains, including coding, marketing, and more. It hasn't been fully realized yet, but it likely has the potential or already possesses the capabilities that will be released incrementally to manage economic impacts and prevent widespread disruption across various digital sectors.

- Again, your message is good but your delivery sucks. For me to say Ai is boring, it is not the same as saying the universe is boring, or trying to chase a hype and dopamine. It is more of the fact that Ai can be 1000x more powerful than it currently is that they are not releasing and now with external forces that have a say, I look forward to that. People really think we havent touched AGI YET, I will be bored of the Ai hype until they release the AGi Models. Which EXIST.

AI is just rehashing pre-existing stuff and rebranding it
Congratulations for those who created a bot capable of doing that, but this shit isn't able to create anything genuinely new

Now for a non for profit company even elon musk confused, and maybe another reason why most of the team at openai disbanded looking at Sam's soon to be life style.

As they say there is no angel, there is no poor to rich, only scams, back room hand shacks, exploits, secrets thinking otherwise you're foolish. There is no good deed for the good only the most cunning and manipulative but for that society will judge you for it.

No one said Sam Altman isn't selling out ;-)

Ilya is definitely not Sam.

Sam is not a scientists AT ALL.

He's a business nerd/tech guy who can code. He isn't motivated by science. Ilya is motivated by science.

Sam is a MASSIVE sell-out. Not the guy to be leading up AI, but he's useful to those in power because of the way he is.

To be more precise though, Sam is motivated by power. He's a bit of a dark character in my opinion.

At that level no one is motivated by money.

People are either motivated by the power money gives you, or they're motivated by what they can create with money. People are always one of the 2.

Elon is a creation guy.

Sam is a power guy.

Ilya is a creation guy, but he's a pure scientist, so he doesn't directly involve himself in money.

Elon is a hybrid scientist/business person. About 30% science, 70% business.

In 2024 and beyond the hybrids will make the most money. In the 50s to 80s it was the pure business/money/negotiation guys like Trump.

Sam is a hybrid too actually, but one motivated by power, not creation. He definitely understands the tech. That's what makes Sam more dangerous. He looks fluffy on the outside, but on the inside he craves power *and* fame.
